Port conflicts! AHH!

Our house is using a D-Link modem along with a Microsoft router to connect two computers to the internet. Both computers can see each other on the network, but when playing games, the games cannot recognize both of us in the lobby when playing with the LAN option, so we are forced to go on the game servers to play through the internet. Even that, we get disconnected upon launch!

Remembering Kali.net from Warcraft II days, I decided to sign up for this in order for us to play and find out what the problem is later... BUT, they found the problem for us. Kali states:

Port conflict! Your connection appears to be through a NAT router and two PCs on the LAN are using the same port: xxx.xxx.x.xx:xxxx and xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:xxxx. Kali will likely fail unless this is resolved.

To fix the problem, enter a unique number for "Local Port" in the Kali Advanced Settings dialog (File menu, settings). See the Kali message boards at http://kww.kali.net/bbs for more information.

How do I resolve this fellow tech geniuses? :)

If the games you are using use on product ID, like BF1942, you can not play it at the same time. You have to have two copies of the game.

I'm pretty sure it's a port conflict, because I'm trying to play through the IPX option on Warcraft 2 and the computers cannot see one another in the lobby. Several years ago, I remember playing Warcraft 2 with 4 computers using a single CD, as Blizzard allowed this.

I'm just trying to find out how to change the port settings now...

Command and Conquer: Tiberian Sun does not work either, on LAN or Internet when wanting to play with two computers.

It makes sense though, because if we had the same ports on both computers, the same information would be sent to both computers thinking they are one in the same.

Well, a hub should let you use IPX locally, the problem is, I have no idea what would happen if you tried to use it over the internet, or how you would get two pc's connected to the net without a isp that gives you two different ip addresses.

you can't game two machines that use the same port on the internet at the same time through a nat router, it's impossible.

Sure you can lob,

I've had two computers, going through a NAT router, playing BF1942 at the same time.

Why do I need a switch for port forwarding? My Microsoft Wireless Base Station control panel allows port forwarding for specific applications. Wouldn't that do?

If I only knew which ports to forward for UDP :)

I've never seen one that would resolve the difference of IPs on the same port. unless the nat router is being used simply as a pass through for a multiple IP connection.

Well, I can play the same game with several computers over NAT with one ip. I can start a server one one pc and play in it too.

Yeah, the only thing I ever had to port forward was the server port. Also, we couldnt use the same key for games like bf of course, we had to buy a second copy.
