Porsche Cayenne vs. Infiniti FX45

As much as I like Porsche as a whole, Id definitely take the FX45 over the Cayenne. Ive seen the FX45 close up and its not bad at all, but Porsche screwed themselves with the Cayenne.

Funny you say that because the Cayenne's are selling quite well.
In fact, despite the huge price difference, I've seen an equal amount of Cayenne's and FX's on the road here in the northeast.

They both went on sale in the US around the same time (here in NC, I've seen one Cayenne on the road...probably 4 FX45's):

Sales through May '03

FX45: 8,495
Cayenne: 3,595

well in the north west i've seen probably 5 times as many fx as cayenne.

I know a guy who has a Cayenne and a guy who has a FX45. The guy with the FX45 is laughing at the other guy because his car is at the dealer constantly and he paid 20K more.

FUEL ECONOMY: Mate 450 horses to a Clydesdale curb weight, and the Porsche's 10 miles per gallon is disturbing, but not surprising. The Infiniti fared better at 14 mpg, but neither will be making friends at the Sierra Club.

OH MY GOD! you'd better have your own oil feild in your backyard

I think I might bend my vote for the Touareg Diesel. 30MPG out of an SUV with decent power = good thing.

I saw the Cayenne today on display at a mall near me. The interior is soooo sweet, but the outside is so ho-hum. The list on it was 60k, so it had to be the S, but I didn't look at the rear to see if it said turbo. One of my gf friends has the fx35, and while I like most of the exterior (I hate the nose.), the interior left much to be desired. It's quite cheap looking, when compared to it's competition. Given the choice though, I would have to go with the FX35, as I couldn't justify the extra 20k.

How does the VW Touareg stack up against these 2?

Edited so not to piss off VW fans...😀

The Cayenne absolutely rocks. Looks of the car are subjective -- everyone has their own taste -- but the performance of the Cayenne is awesome. It can actually go offroad (a 'real' off road, not an unpaved driveway), but can still hold it's own with just about any non-sportscar on the road. Shweet. Now about that price tag....

I haven't been in a Cayenne, but I absolutely love the FX45. I went for a test drive in one when we were looking at the G35 Coupe. When I first saw a Cayenne in person, I was shocked at how much bigger the scale was than in the commercial's and print ads. I think I'd like for it to be a bit smaller.

Being that I'm not that big of fan of SUV's, I'd grab the FX and then with the money I saved, I'd buy something else.

I prefer the FX45 to the Cayenne as well. The FX is cheaper, has better-bang-for-the-buck performance, and looks better to me. Sure, the Cayenne can go offroad... but I would not be likely to drive my $50K+ SUV off-road, I'd buy an old Jeep or something if I wanted to do that.

10 MPG are you kidding me? thats HORRIBLE, and 14 MPG for the infinity? YOu'll be paying more on gas than the actual car itself within a year for christ sakes
