The used Porsche Cayenne's run around $25k...I was wondering if you guys are aware of any "issues" they may have in terms of reputation for quality?

They're status-symbol vehicles with no real sporting value. This means that the used market will be soft. The status-symbol purchasers don't want a used vehicle and the sort of people who drive up the value of used 911's, Caymen, and Boxsters aren't interested in buying a Cayenne. I haven't heard of any "show-stopper" issues with the Cayenne, but I'm not at all surprised that they have depreciated a lot.

Haven't heard of any issues. Just shows that they're overpriced new and don't have much to show for it. An old boss of mine had a Cayenne S that he got used and it seemed OK.
Yeah, I wonder what year.. My local dealer has 2004 standard (Not S, Turbo) with 50k miles for $ 30k. That's pretty much only certified one in my area for under $ 30k with reasonable mileage. (To me, 50k miles and 2004 are more than enough, but anyway)
Anything under 40k miles, you are looking at $ 35k, and if it's like 2006, the low is $ 40k. Guess Cayenne is fairly popular in my area.

It makes huge profit for Porsche and those profits get funneled into development of cars like the Boxster, Cayman, and the 911. I'm perfectly happy to have the Cayenne around as long as it remains profitable.

Edmunds gives the 2004 tiptronic low end one $20k true market value.
I would drive one, but do you know how much it's going to hurt your rear-end if you have to bring it in for a repair? Everything will cost more, even an oil change, and by quite a bit.
BTW in my area I am seeing now a red 2006 Cayenne S with 44k for $32k OBO, so let's say $30k easily. That's a heck of a price. It's not certified, though, which is a big selling point (warranty ftw on a porsche, imo).

Prolly ridden damn hard, but still a very nice vehicle.
I thought the original Cayennes had fit and finish issues. My best friend has a Cayenne S and I know he has had some problems with it. Nothing major, just nagging little problems.

Well, as ZV said, it has been a major $$ driver for Porsche, and I don't mind it as they can pour the money from Cayenne into other usual Porsches. Same goes to Panamera.
Thanks guys. I'm looking into a 2005 Cayenne with ~60k miles for $25k or a 2005 or 2006 Toyota 4Runner limited for $18k. I might add a used RX330 to the mix too. My family and I had Toyota/Lexus for the last 12 years and I'm very used to zero problems cheap repairs.

QFT especially if you go to a dealer to do anything. I've got a friend with a '07 911and it costs ~$280 for an oil change. Granted an oil change is something you can do yourself but if an oil change costs that much, think how much more expensive everything else will be...
Its just oil and a filter. Jiffy lube can do it...even with full synthetic it shouldn't run more than 100 bucks.

How many miles are on the 4Runner you are looking at? An '05 Cayenne with 60k miles for $25k doesn't sound too appealing to me. You could be in for some significant upkeep and maintenance costs as the vehicle nears 100k (2-3 years of driving probably?)
Anyone have experience with the reliability of the Cayenne?
The Cayenne wasn't that expensive of a SUV new so used values are in line. Keep in mind a 911 costs 70k base new, a Boxster costs 46k, a Cayenne V6 is only 45k. It's actually not bad for a SUV that size with a prestige badge since a Range Rover is 79k(62k for the Range Rover Sport based on the LR2 platform) and a Mercedes M is 45k.
As for matainence, yeah, I would watch out for that. A used prosche usually has fairly high servicing costs (See 944/968, 928, Boxster, 911), but the Cayenne I believe has many VW parts so it may not be as bad. I would definitely do my research though on what the problem points are and how much it actually is to put on the road before buying a porsche.
