Officer injured during early morning car chase

Web Posted: 05/13/2006 12:03 PM CDT

Brian Chasnoff
Express-News Staff Writer

A San Antonio traffic officer was injured early Saturday morning in a car chase on Loop 410, police said.

About 2:20 a.m., John Pagola, an officer in the DWI unit, was parked and running radar along westbound Loop 410 near Jones Maltsberger Road. Then, a newer-model, silver Porsche SUV sped past at about 20 miles per hour over the speed limit, said police spokesman Joe Rios.

As Pagola activated his lights and siren and moved onto the highway, the Porsche accelerated to more than 100 miles per hour, Rios said.

While navigating a curve near the intersection of Loop 410 and Interstate 10, Pagola crashed his police car into a concrete wall. He was taken to Methodist Hospital with an injured shoulder and later released, Rios said.

Pagola was unable to record the SUV?s license plate number, and the driver of the Porsche has not been apprehended at this moment, according to Rios.

You can do well over 100 in damn near any car. The cop sucked at driving, end of story.

Not just any car can handle well over 100 MPH though. My Camry at over 100 = scary. My Mazda at over 100 = no probs.

You can DO it, you just have to have BALLS OF STEEL. And we're talking about a freeway here (I think) - not exactly a tight turning circuit

Sounds like NFS Most Wanted. Of course the cops are better drivers and drive corevettes!

That was a BS bust. Did manage to rack up $1.3M bounty messing all kinds of things up. The cement truck is quite funny too. They actually try to ram you head on with jeep cherokees. I don't know what a cement mixer weighs or why it has a bottle (NOS) but it manages to plow nicely through roadblocks even three cars deep.

Porsche driver got lucky that day.

How's that?

Porsche driver got lucky that the cop was a bad driver.
I've raced in my Expedition and pushed it past 100 with no problems. How the hell anyone couldnt handle ANY car at speeds around 100 is beyond me.

I assume everyone bagging on the cop has done 100mph on a curvy highway in their grandfather's Crown Victoria?

He may have seen a bunny rabbit and swerved to avoid running him over - I mean with it being close to Easter and all. ;)

You make a sudden move or lane change in your Expedition at 100MPH and you're toast. With a Cayenne, you'd stand a far greater chance of recovering.

I mean, sheesh...don't you watch those high speed car chases on TV :D

I did do a quick lane change. It feels a bit hairy blasting down the freeway at 110 in a 5000 lb SUV, but I didnt think I was at the end of its performence.

Granted, I'd MUCH rather do it in a Porsche ;)

The only reliable way to rack up the 1,000,000 bounty is to park yourself on top of the bus terminal, and watch the police cars pull one continuous Wrath of Khan until you get up to 1,000,000.. :)

Apparently you are not aware of what the Interceptor package is. Several improvements, and run flats are not it.
