Actually, that's fairly common on cars that are turbocharged. It has something to do with a system that "afterburns" the exaust to keep the turbo spooled up between shifts.Originally posted by: notfred

I'm not sure how common it is on "consumer" cars (though that Gemballa stretches the definition of "consumer"). I know they do that in the WRC.
I do know that on my car, the ECU will run it a little richer when I'm boosting and at high RPMS to avoid running lean. Though though nowhere near the point of shooting flames out the back.
Ever seen any videos of RX-7s accelerating hard? Now those things can really shoot some serious flames... a couple feet long.
