A lot of people these days are going retro downstairs.
Yeah, luckily no one in this house. Every now and then I go with my wife when she gets her eyebrows waxed and wait in the waiting room, there is always a non-stop line of women coming in for Brazilians.

LOL, renting was cheaper. Pretty fucking embarrassing though.
LOL, I worked at one of this counties 1st video stores in '79, people paid $200 for membership and could take 3 movies at any given time, they'd ask for two of the raunchiest porn we had and "Lassie" for the 3rd tape, didn't want others to
think they were TOTAL perverts you see.

My buddy at the time (1996-2000) had a video rental shop. The porn was in the back room. You had to open the black curtain to enter. It was sleazy IMO. He had a priest who would get 3-4 tapes a week. What in the hell was he doing? He had this guy who came in and rented gay films. He had a wife. He'd tell us that he was getting them for his friend. Yea, ok.

I still remember renting Backside To The Future. Woman goes back in time to have sex with her younger self.
LOL, yea, back in the day they tried higher production value along with cool naming like "Indiana Joan and the black hole of mamu" or "Sperminator" or "Romancing the bone".

What was he doing?, I'll give you three guesses, porn was a major driver of both video and internet development.

This conversation reminds of my time in southern Georgia in the early 90’s. I could not get MTV on cable because that was too lascivious, but walk into the the local video rental store and you could get the raunchiest porn videos available. There were always multiple people in that area and you could only rent 2 at a time. It was not a black curtain that separated the area since they did not want to corrupt the young minds. It was a separate room with a door. I laugh just thinking about it.

In the old days, porn was a rough business in which murder was possible for those in the business.

and with so many changes across the internet around content moderation and verification, it feels like this might be part of a bigger trend. Curious how you all think this will play out over the next couple of years....
Porn is already blocked in my state. Bluesky is as well for reasons I've never seen explained.

Ah, the sweet taste of freedom. Just like the good old days in the GDR.

A more recent article about this:

Between laws like the UK Online Safety Act and credit card companies fighting anything that looks even mildly inappropriate, it's getting hard to publish anything online, let alone porn.
