Porkins, why?

Why did they use a fat guy to play porkins, and with the name porkins... seems like they did it on purpose. but then again, if he was a skinny guy, it would be ironic isn't it?

i guess it is funnier to hear a fat man deathly scream as his x-wing blew up.

The Marvel Comics adaptation of Star Wars identifies Porkins with the first name "Tono." The novelization also gives him the nickname of "Piggy."
