Porgram/way to remove (mostly) drums and bass?

Is there a way to remove parts of a song like instruments? I know it's not going to be exact but for instance, my friends AIWA stereo has the ability to remove voices from a song. It worked somewhat well actually. Removed most of the voice and it took out some of the guitar too but oh well it's pretty cool.

So I got this whack guitar solo that's pretty much high pitched and I'm wondering if I can take out most of the drums and bass so I can hear it better.

Easy with a MIDI file . . . each instrument is a separate track. Not so with WAV, MP3, WMA, etc. There you can only attempt to clip frequencies.

Well it's a WAV file and I knew you can't perfectly take them out but in this case the guitar is a lot higher than the bass and drums so you should be able to remove the lower frequences and it might still sound okay.
