Popup Ads

Well, it looks like more ad popups are back. When going from the forums to the main site through the logo at the top, I got this, a Verisign popup ad. I'm a forums subscriber, so it had to have come from the main site(and I've had this happen before, but I accidentally closed it, but it was under the same circumstances). I don't have Kazza nor any other spyware running, and I didn't have any windows open to sites besides the AT forums, so it had to have come from the main site. Please, give the ad guys hell for this. Thanks.

Ad I got was "Verisign Security Dispatch #2:
Protecting your E-business financial transactions...

I got one too, Verisign security dispatch 1. This was on the front page of the forums. The ads displayed were "WIN a trip to South Carolina!" on the bottom and "shop 'til you Price drop" (for zdnet shopper) on the top. There was also a small box next to the zdnet ad, where there is normally another ad.

Have you guys recently run AdAware to see if you somehow got something installed? I got a popup this morning and thought it was the forums until I ran AdAware. It turns out I had many things installed, but the most noticeable was Gator. I have no idea how I got it because I never installed it and I am the only one to use my computer.

One I've been getting is actually red. Maybe it isn't verisign either now that I think about it. Also, you may be right about the adware thing because I seem to only get this at home computer, not work. I don't know what I would have installed though because the only freeware/shareware/trialware I have used is winamp, winace, mirc and trillian, and this computer hasn't even been up for a month. Popup ad will open when I only have the one anandtech browser open and had nothing open before (new instance).

Still there on my workstation at work(AIX) and popupkiller killed it before it could load at home last night..Heard it kill it though. I've got ad aware installed with no adware except for lotus organizer and the fake dll for kazaa...

just got that popup (verisign) from opening IE to the main forums page. I am straight off a fresh boot and the forums are my hompage so there really isnt a chance its anything else.
