For some reason I suck at getting a manual started... I seem to "pop" the clutch when I'm about 1/2 way out... and the car kind of jumps forwards and backwards...

Is this bad for the engine/transmition?

btw: I've only driven a manual for a total of one hour from birth :p

You're not giving enough gas. That's the beginner's mistake. Must give gas while engaging clutch.

if I give it the slightest bit of gas the car goes VVVVRRRRRRRRRRROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSSSSSSSSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHH

This is a '89 probe GT i was trying it out on...

I'm too scared to go fast I guess, in an automatic I don't seem to have any trouble though ;)

There's a delicate balance of gas and clutch you will learn after time you one. In time.

Took me longer than it should have done, but in time I learned to speed shift fast as all hell, so just hang in there :)

Get on a flat surface and give it about 1500rpms and slowly let the clutch out and see how it goes, adjust the rpms to less or more depending and just practice starting out on those rpms. Then listen for those rpms and do it without looking at how many you're giving. Eventually it you'll get it down.

that's what I did do, but I couldn't keep the RPM's up... cuz I'm afraid of going too fast...

This is why I only let my wife drive my car on the highways. She always jerks the car in 1st gear. One of these days she will learn to drive a standard smoothly...I hope...I pray... :p

I was thinking of asking Mr. Robertson who has a 5spd mustang (like an 86 or something) and seeing if he'll let me train on that...

No pics, I'm grounded from driving for a bit (dunno why) so I can't go take any pics of it... It's a friends car.
It's in fairly good condition, black w/ black interior
