Hey All I am a new (will be Wednesday) Of a X-15 cheetah and a Adaptec 29160. my Question is I need a 68pin cable for the HD but what about my DVD and CD-RW? Should I:

  • Get a couple 68 to 50 pin adaptors for the CD drives and hook them up to the 68pin cable?

Get a seperate 50pin cable and run them that way?

Also on Termination Do i have to terminate the farthest connector's end? or just the connector after the last drive I use?

Freekin $40 for a 4 connector rounded cable at coolerguys! whoa!

now you know why not everyone goes for scsi!
connect your cd drives to the 50 pin internal connector.
for your cd drives terminate the last device on the chain.
for your hdd, there should be an active terminator at the end of the lvd cable!
finally make sure you ID your devices correctly! :)

bacillus is right, the cdr's need to be on a separate cable or you will lose performance.
rounded scsi cables, hmm, just get the regular spec cables.
make sure it's an lvd capable cable with active termination for the hdd.
pick a 50 pin cable out of the dollar bin (i mean, don't spend alot for this one)

I agree that you need to run the optical drives on the 50pin connector. Also you will (should) find a jumper on the CD/DVD/CDRW drive to terminate it.

there are, in fact, wide scsi cdr's out there (i.e. 68 pin). nonetheless, DO NOT place these on the same channel as the hdd-as i don't think there are any lvd capable cdrom, cdrw, etc (though i'm not 100% sure about this.

You DON'T want your optical drives on a 68pin cable...you're just going to slow down the important devices. Keep them on 50 pin.
Also, they will all have onboard termination, just enable it on the last physical drive on the 50 pin cable and you're set.

If you have a LVD cable for the HD, I'm sure it has a terminator on the end. Don't mess with it.

Oh, I thought you bought that $40 U160 cable after your comment in your first post "Freekin $40 for a 4 connector rounded cable at coolerguys! whoa! "

Your LVD cable needs to be terminated on the end of the cable.

And you correct, on your 50pin chain, the device farthest away on the chain from the controller needs to be terminated (the device that is).
