About as funny looking as young kiddies who wear their hoodies up indoors thinking they look cool.

I've popped mine on the golf course, just to help keep sun off the back of my neck.

meh, popped collars have been going on for a while. it seems to be part of the yuppie dress code.

sort of like how Tapout gear was really really popular with the "I'm tough, just look at my Tapout shirt" crowd. yes, grasping those chicken wings are hands of death and underneath your flab is a man of steel.

so far the absolute worst thing that I've seen is a late 20s/early 30s guy at the airport in Chicago. He looked like a walking Banana Republic add. He had grey wool slacks, nice shoes, a fitted shirt...and then a fucking rat tail. seriously, a fucking rat tail. some shit should never come back.

Collars are generally illogical to begin with. They work on dress shirts to hide your tie, but who wears a tie with a polo shirt? No one. So why the hell is the collar there? Oh, we had a bit of extra fabric, so we just kept going, and now you can fold it down right there... That's ridiculous. Wearing a popper collar actually makes more sense than keeping the collar down, as you might get some utility out of the extra fabric.

But yeah, popped collars do look ridiculous.

I have some insight to this as I am an Asian. The reason for it is not to look "cool" as in American perception, but it is Asian's dislike for being tanned by the sun. It is more of a functional thing rather than a fashion statement. I saw this in Korea when I went there and my wife who lived most of her life there has told me the same. I do this sometimes too when I am out playing golf and it can be quite hot.

So don't be so judging as your perception is based on stupid VH1 bullshit you grew up with. Nothing has to do with fashion and being cool, all about function and minimizing sun burn/tan.

when you are outside, let's say enjoying a round of golf and the sun is beating on your neck, you put up the collar.

Something tells me that Alkemyst is reading this thread right now with his collar popped.
