He's not scared he just believes life is precious and a person should fight to stay alive all the way to the very agonizing end with machines, medicines and vodoo.

This great Pope wants to remain alive as long as he could. What is wrong with that?

Some of you people will use any excuse to bash him and the Christian faith.

Oh wow, another genious post. Where did you pull great information from?

Being Christian does not make one evil, you got that? He is old and frail now, but he still has his senses. Don't even try to compare him to Terri Schivo. He has full brain capacity and is recovering from a serious operation. Billions people are on his side and are praying for his health and well being. Even though I'm not a Catholic, I'm one of those people.

Well.. he is a man after all... plus probably his staff is willing to try anything in order to keep him alive.
I am not religious in any way... but this pope made really incredible things during his life. I think the world is going to miss him a lot in future. I don't think the next one could be quite as influential as he has been during his time.

yeah, speaking against the use of condoms in africa for example , helping millions of people die of aids. could someone hand me a nobel price please?

the only bad thing about this guy finally kicking the bucket is that there will be another one after him.

He never said you should have unprotected casual sex. He said you should unprotected sex with your lifetime partenr only, otherwise abstain. Of course, not beeing religious, I don't agree at all. This is a moral issue, and I wouldn't suppose the pope to promote lust and reckless fun.
But having worked quite a long time in many african countries including Botswana, where the AIDS infected reach almost 50% of the population, I can tell you that the pope opinion about this is one of the least important things for the problem.

A- Most of them are not catholics, and wouldn care about what the pope said.
B- A tiny percentage of the population has access to a television set.
C- Even if they wanted to use condoms... they have simply no access to them. Most of the people never saw a condom, and when the UN people gave them some for free the reaction was usually an understandable dislike for the damn thing.
D- Even if they had a condom shop near home (and they don't) they wouldn't spend those money... also because they would need tons of them. What a lot of people don't understand is that in austral-african countries the people have A LOT of sex. And I mean A LOT. The average zambian man probably have more sex in a month than the avarage american in 10 years. They have a lot of free time... their future is VERY uncertain, so they just do today what they want to do...
E- They don't think they have AIDS... most of the people think AIDS is a white-men thing.

Of course there are educated africans, living in urban areas, who DO have culture about AIDS and understand the magnitude of the problem, but they are quite few, expecially in the poor countries like Angola, Zaire, Zambia etc etc.

But, as I said, I agree with you that I don't support his view on what a correct sexual life is. Actually I think that religion should stay away from things like sexual behaviour. Humans had sex much before they had a God.

When I was writing about this pope deeds I meant the role he played in causing the collapse of the communism in eastern europe countries.. without shooting a single bullet... and the efforts he was making in these last years in order to reconciliate the biggest world religions.
Regards

i agree with you on the fact that his words probably don't have much influence in the problem area. maybe wath i find very disturbing is the fact that he so casually puts his personal believes over the lives of millions of people. ofcourse he couldn;t go around promoting casual sex, but i just feel he's shouldn't get involved in this issue anyway. i hardly think anybody is waiting on his opinion a sex related matter: he IS a cross dressing virgin after all ;)

as for the other reason: obviously you are a lot better educated about this issue then i am, so i'll just take your word for it! thumbsup;

Well said, Obi-Wan;)

I think it's fair to say your 'Star Wars quote' meter needs a good solid *tap*.

The pope is helping millions of people to die of aids? Are you perhaps suggesting that the old man has aids, is using viagra, and is infecting millions of people with the disease? Yes it is the pope's fault that millions of non christians in Africa are not using condoms. Yep, that's the Pope's doing. He has traveled Africa and preached indicriminate sex with people who have aids in the hopes that they all die. He is an evil genius that Pope. It isn't the people's fault that they had unprotected sex with people who have aids. NO! Of course not! If only the Pope had said to use a condom. I bet you have unprotected sex because the pope said not to use a condom. Such is the power of the Pope's word.

I can't respect a man who describes same-sex marriage as part of an "ideology of evil". (His exact words.) Nor can I cannot respect a man who has over-seen the cover-up of the sexual abuse of children the world over. (Unlike the Michael Jackson case, we know for a fact that the abuse occurred, and we know about the efforts to keep it hidden). I can't respect a man who has sought to blame the actions of pedophiles on gay people. I can't respect a man who uses the political power of the Vatican to oppose human rights for homosexuals and transexuals, to push "abstinence" on Africa, and to restrict the rights of women all around the world to choose an abortion, etc.

The pope has decided he would rather be kept alive, artificially, than to have his body undergo its natural course.

Terri Schiavo, in contrast, told her husband she didn't want to be kept alive artificially.

Pretty simple, actually.

wouldn't it be interesting if the poop slips into a coma, and hangs on for the next 20 years in a persistent vegetative state?

Such an event could fracture the church if it went on that long. There are already substantial differences in some areas of belief between the church in different nations.
