Asinine. The pope needs to declare himself a fraud, first of all. After that he should probably just stfu. Imagine the conceit, to allow himself poped.

Yeah...who does he think he is, Christians should be a hateful group of people just like Jesus said in the bible...they should definitely be intolerant of anyone not like themselves.....

When he avails all the child rapist priests to law enforcement, then I'll consider the guy worth a damn. Would also be decent if he did away with the Vatican's absurd wealth; the Vatican is richer than a few banks, IIRC.

People make a big deal about him not hating on gays but even if you as a Christian believe homosexuality is wrong, not even then should you hate a person for it. "Hate the sin, not the sinner" so they say. Now I personally don't think being gay even is a sin. But even if it were, you should not hate someone for it.

Oh I don't know. There's all those verses commanding you to kill people, like that one where you're to kill rape victims if they didn't scream.

Pretty heavy stuff. "We're going to kill you, but don't worry, we love you."

The Bible sometimes advocates violence as surely as the Quran does. But only fanatics take their holy book to such an extreme. A contemporary practice of Christianity is one of love, mercy and forgiveness. Those that use their holy book as a rationalization for their hate or violence are simply pretenders looking for an excuse to justify their abysmal behavior.

Ehh....No. What we're seeing today, is that many people in the west and far east have long since morally outgrown their (Abrahamic) religion; they're good in spite of their denomination.

But the religions themselves are blood-thirsty, warlike, slavery-endorsing and just utterly disgusting.

The "niceness" comes from people being good people, whereas the scripture is pretty clear on who, what, and when to kill, rape, enslave and slaughter.

I wonder what the pagans think of Christianity, or the Native Americans, or what the Sikhs think of Islam. Or, hell, what the Yazidi think of Islam.

They're cut frae the same cloth, whereas morality has been advancing past the iron age for a while now.

People who believe that they are superior to others is at the very core of the human problem. History has shown us time and time again to never underestimate the evil "nice people" are able to rationalize in the name of their perceived moral superiority.

The Pope is my kind of guy, personality-wise.

But I'm sure he's pissing off a lot of fundamentalists that would very much like him to retire.

Any better definition of a nut-case than a person who thinks they're morally superior to the Pope?

It's not really hard to be morally superior to the Pope; for example, I'm not harbouring known child rapists and protecting them from facing justice.

That goes for most people here, I'd hope. The bar is really, really fucking low.

By evil "nice people" did you mean people like the Pope? Or religious people in general?

Which Pope was it that said that Aids is bad, but condoms are even worse?

Yeah helping to spread Aids in modern times would be pretty darn evil. And you thought only religious people from the distant past were evil. Oh no. Unfortunately for us, and them, that is not so.

But what will really burn your bacon is why religious folks can't see that. They will no doubt quote parts of this post and show you that they don't, but they are not aware of why.

I hope it involves letting the Jesuits have some kind of anti-child rape brut squad, and they get to go around and kneecap all these child rapists and those that defend and shelter them. Spanish inquisition shit (which no one expects, obviously)!

Think Ghandi, from UHF. "Don't move....slimeball."

Will probably be something a bit more reasonable, more in line with the stuff they like to attribute to that jesus guy.

The gay one, who used to break bread with Nazis and got ousted when his involvement with child abuse became to difficult to conceal. His brother is a real piece of work too. If there's a hell, both have an express ticket to the more scenic parts when they check out.

Greetings,

Has anyone here read "The Shack" by William P. Young? It altered the way I look at things, or more like validated them. It is an excellent read.

An article I just read attributed the quote, which I paraphrased, to Pope Benedict XVI. I don't know what you mean by "the gay one".
