Fuck the pope.

He should be tried in ICC for crimes against humanity for destroying millions of lives in Africa due to AIDS.

The pope's latest comments in opposition to homosexual marriage came in an address to bishops from several Midwestern states on a regular visit to the Vatican.

"Sexual differences cannot be dismissed as irrelevant to the definition of marriage," he said.

He added that the traditional family and marriage had to be "defended from every possible misrepresentation of their true nature" because, he said, whatever injured families injured society.

"In this regard, particular mention must be made of the powerful political and cultural currents seeking to alter the legal definition of marriage (in the United States)," he added in a clear reference to gay marriage.

Last week Maryland legalized same-sex marriage.

Massachusetts, Iowa, Vermont, New Hampshire, Connecticut, New York and the District of Columbia currently allow gay and lesbian weddings.

Washington State will join the list in June unless opponents stop it ahead of a possible referendum, and Maryland will be added in January 2013 unless its law, too, is overturned by a threatened referendum in November.

Benedict called on American bishops to continue their "defense of marriage as a natural institution consisting of a specific communion of persons, essentially rooted in the complementarities of the sexes and oriented to procreation".

The Vatican and Catholic officials around the world have protested against moves to legalize gay marriage in Europe and other developed parts of the world.

wtf does a guy like the Pope know about marriage, anyway?

it's always funny, hearing this kind of shit from an organization (and primarily this pope) that categorically condoned child rape.

How is he intervening by his statements any more than you are by posting your opinion online? Is it because people actually care about his opinion due to his life-long study of morality and ethics? Maybe if you replace "the pope" with "Joseph Ratzinger, PhD," and forgot he was the pope for three seconds, you could keep your head from asploding long enough to carry out a reality check. He is entitled to his opinion just as you are to yours. He's hardly holding a gun to anyone's head to force them to screw random people without protection. If people in Africa were listening to him at all, they wouldn't be spreading AIDS in the first place. But then that would put some responsibility on the individual, and we can't have that.

it's hard for me to comprehend why a legitimate religious organization should amass billions, if not trillions, of dollars in wealth. i thought the basis of most religions was to help your fellow man. yeah, the church just seems like another bernie madoff to me...

I question the morality of a man that over decades, moved rapists from one diocese to the next, rather than deal with them as one deals with rapists (i.e, the law; and not placing them in new rapey positions)--and his wanton disregard for human health and the AIDs epidemic in Africa simply because he couldn't accept the fact that maybe AIDs is a far more damaging prospect that not having a few more potential Christian babies around.

This man never deserved to be pope.

Where does it say he can intervene people's day to day life? as for judging...who cares? everyone judges other people. What do you expect? He represents, at one of the highest authorities, an organization that does not want gay marriage.

Yeah fvck the pope for his judgements. In fact, for his intolerance we should bring him up on crimes against humanity. No irony here at all.

That's kind of a silly thing to say considering the vast majority of things in all forms of Christianity is just made up stuff.

Hasn't every pope always felt this way? The fact that he feels the need to say it out loud shows how much the Pope's influence has eroded.

Well if you think about it, the means of communications have greatly increased in the last 2000 years. If might seem as though he's saying it out loud when in reality he is just taking advantage of the technology.

Well said!
