When the movie industry gets desperate, they go after users, so maybe this is a good sign. I think it's only a matter of time before everyone starts using a VPN.

Popcorn Time might be an extremely easy way to watch pirated movies and TV shows for free, but it’s not necessarily safe.
The makers of the 2014 Adam Sandler comedy The Cobbler have sued 11 people for copyright infringement, specifically calling out Popcorn Time as their software of choice, TorrentFreak reports. The lawsuit, filed at a federal court in Oregon, are seeking statutory damages of up to $150,000, though it’s likely the defendants will receive settlement offers for considerably less.
Popcorn Time is a free program for Windows, Mac, Linux, and Android that acts as a sort of pirate Netflix. Users get a beautiful, ad-free interface for browsing movies and TV shows—including the latest releases—and can watch them on demand with just a click.

As always, it ends up turning into a how-to-best-pirate thread.

Public VPN's that you can just go to a website to signup/pay for aren't safe, no matter how much they try to pretend they are so they can take your money. Right now, it is more of a pain than just going after torrenters, but if it came down to it, the companies/government could go after them as well as they have the same ability to infiltrate those as anything else.

Pirates being sued for pirating. Not seeing a problem here.

If the VPN doesn't do any logging, as most of them claim, it's not possible for them to rat you out. Whether or not you believe that claim is something else entirely.

I wonder what the upload speed those 11 people have. It must be pretty damn fast for the big boys to come after you.

Never used it so not exactly sure...but I assume if they can track IP's it must just be streaming torrents with packets in order. There are a number of other apps that do this (Utorrent even does it within the app).

Popcorn Time is mainly used by people that aren't familiar with torrentz. At least that's the impression I get. So they may not be as aware of the risks. They also probably don't realize that they're uploading content that they download. Even so, I thought most ISP's would issue DMCA warnings to people. I know I got my fair share before I started using a non-logging VPN. So they must have gotten repeated warnings and just ignored them. At least I hope so. Going after people on a first or second offense is bullshit.

Probably heavily monitored more likely.

Yeah I'm not sure. It's pretty wild though. Would they really go after the little guys like you and me upping and dling a few gigs a month? Either way its pretty crazy.

I thought this was abut the number you call to get the time. Is that still a thing?

yeah exactly.

It's weird they're not going after the releasers instead of the users.

So what I'm getting from this is that you pirate, and heavily.
