What is the default and alternate port for sending mail? I can't remember, and I'm trying to setup my mobo monitoring software... If you wanted to enable / disable the ports for sending mail in a hardware router, which ones would you enable?
Tas.

hardware routers don't normally block outgoing traffic, thus you shouldn't have to set anything up...

also sending mail would be smtp... thus a search for that should return the default ports (i don't know them)

what is your setup that you are trying to do this with? might help me understand why/how you need this done.

Josh

My monitoring software has the ability to send me an e-mail when voltages, fan speeds, etc get out of parameters. I want to set it up, but I can't remember the primary and alternate port for sending email. I remember is the same in setting up routers for mail. Default is :25 (port 25), and alternate is something like :143 or :995, but I'm not sure. I need to specify the alternate port, because my ISP is blocking the program from sending out of primary.
Tas.

SMTP is port 25. You can set up the connection on the email server to accept smtp on an alternate port, but you should ask the administrator what port.
I'm a little confused by the question. It sounds like you are not sending to an Email server at your ISP. What email server are you sending to?

Okay, I figured it out. It is port 143, with no authorization settings (no username / password). 143 is the alternate SMTP port. Okay, thanks a lot everyone. 🙂
