I get a popup prompting me to download 'Macromedia flash' every time I open a new page on the main Anandtech site (not the forums). Every time I go to a new page (when reading reviews or articles) this pops up asking me if I want to download it. I keep telling it no, & it pops up every time i change pages. Anandtech is the only site where I get this. Zuni (or whoever is in charge of the main site server), what is this & why am I getting it. Is there something that can be done to get rid of this. I don't believe in downloading anything that I do not specifically ask for (and need). I have Win98se at home where I get this. When I go to anandtech from work (windows NT 4.0) I do not get it (possibly because the work firewall stops it).

macromedia flash is just a plugin for some cool movies, or lame ass advertisements. nothing wrong with it.

but then why is something in the anandtech pages prompting me to download it? Is is one of the banner advertisers trying to get more stuff into my system? If this is not something essential to viewing anandtech, it should not be attached in anyway to their site.

It's an advertisment that requires the Flash plugin. It specifies to IE where to download it, so, like any other ActiveX program, IE asks you if you want to download it. There should be an option to never download ActiveX plugins, I think it's in the Security tab of the Internet Options dialog. If it were me, though, I'd just download it. It's not too big, and it's just an ActiveX plugin....it doesn't add any overhead or slow down your browser. Lots of sites use Flash for navigation, animations, etc.
