pop-up problem in IE 6.0

I have recently gotten these problems in my Internet Explorer:

I go to a website that has maybe 1-2 popups, and I get an error that tells me to close Explorer (but it seems to be Windows Explorer, not Internet Explorer). I do that, then I get another message (not an error one) that tells me to close Internet Explorer. I do so, but I dont get that system recovery (white) screen. This happens even if I restart.

I also get "Error: 35 Incompatable version of RPC stub" when I try to "find on page".

I know I was pretty vague with my descriptions of my problems, but can anyone help??

Thank you!

Do you have any other browsers you could try to see if the problem happens with them?

Many browsers (like Mozilla Firebird) have built-in pop up stoppers, so that might eliminate the problem altogether right there.

If not, have you gotten all updates for Windows and IE through Microsoft's website? That may have something to do with it...

It sounds like you have a virus - possibly blaster or one of its variants. If you don't have a good, up-to-date av program, try Housecall first. It's an online av scanner.

Then get all the MS Updates to plug the RPC holes.

Yesterday I got the most recent service package from Microsoft. I will download Netscape and see if I get the same problem. Thank you so much for your reply!

If other suggestions don't work, could be a failed browser plugin at fault here. It's trying to hook the search plugin, but it's broken for one reason or another. Try disabling third-party browser extensions (Tools->Internet Options->Advanced), and give it another go.
