I heard a pop and smelt something burnt. Was it my XP1700 cpu?
Now when I turn it on, fans runs, but no video is displaying. Earlier, I had been having problems with my computer turning off after i had booted up, and I had just figured there was a short or something.
What could have caused the pop/overheating? I had just redone the AS application on the Alpha PAL heatsink on my ECS k7sa motherboard.

My guess would be RAM. Without RAM no video would display, and if you have bad ram that might be the cause

Either the CPU or video card(if you have a decent 3D card). One of the 2 has burnt up but its most likely the CPU. No video could be caused by 1 or all of the 4 most important parts of a PC. They would be ram, video card, mobo(chipset) and CPU.

Could be the ram also. If you spelt something burning and heard a popping sound you can pull the ram and CPU out and look on them for burnt marks. If you smelt something burning something has a burn mark on it for sure.
