So I went to the microwave to pop some popcorn. When I opened the door I noticed that there was a kernal already in the microwave. I went ahead and placed my pop in there and put the kernal beside my bag. Popping time was two minutes, opened up the microwave and the kernal was still unpopped, picked it up and it was slightly warm. Why didn't it pop?

Also how long does it take your microwave to pop a normal size bag? We had a microwave in the airforce that would pop it in under a minute. I thought that was pretty fast.

Popping time should be about 30 minutes, also be sure to leave the microwave unattended while popping. Leaving the house or taking a bath is recommended.
 
I always heard that there is a metal piece inside the microwave popcorn bag at the bottom that somehow is supposed to focus the microwaves into the proper area where all the kernals area to get them popping faster. But I first heard this many years ago so it could be old technology.
