Now this is someone who has the right to preach socialism.

Unlike all the fvcking politicians preaching class warfare and reach for the high income pockets and donate next to nothing to all the people they suppose to care so much about.

I grew up next to a woman that is going to end up doing the same thing.

The woman has millions. Spends next to nothing. Looks like a hobo. Never married. Never dated. She inherited the money from her parents that worked their entire lives and saved every dime they could.

My mom still lives next to the woman. I am pretty sure her money will all be left to a church.

Would be nice if she were around to see it unfold. Death is just you in a box... there is no smiling face as others benefit from your kindness.

No but it's a good way to tell them F U!!!!!

Disagree with you here... She knows that the money is going to a good cause, because she decided so before she died. That alone can give you a lot of pleasure while you are alive and make you smile.

edit: spelling

There's quite a bit of controversy about this...

http://www.modbee.com/2012/01/24/2038451/jardine-frugal-donors-shocking.html

Read the comments after the article. Lots of people think she "owed" her grandchildren more than they got...

I'm not a supporter of the Salvation Army, (yes, they do some good things, but it comes with a hook...the sermons) but I don't have any problem with the lady giving her money to a charity instead of family. She and her husband earned every cent...it's up to them (her) to do with it as they want...and are not obligated in the least to give it to her grandchildren.

Seconded.

no movies, no restaurants, no cable? no thanks. couldn't live like that.

That is why your work hard to educate yourself and increase your earning potential.

Some people are content in life smoking pot and bagging groceries... but they do not realize things like movies, restaurants, cable, 60" tv's, Ford Mustangs are things they cannot easily have and keep money in the bank. People want to slack off their whole lives but still be able to retire.. well this lady could be a lesson to them all.

I wouldn't want to live my life that excessive penny-pinching way, but to each their own. 90+ years foregoing everything that costs money? No thanks.

As for the grandchildren being mad saying they "deserve" more money - that attitude is probably a good reason why they didn't get it. It was her money, she can do as she pleases with it. When my parents pass, whatever money they have left can go wherever they want it to - if they want to give it to my siblings and myself, that's good for us; if they want to donate it all, great; if they want to be cremated and have their ashes flown into space in a platinum urn, awesome.

That evil 1%er should have been taxed to death so she couldn't horde her money for evil purposes!
(All kidding aside, great act of charity)

You know she's not a 1%er. The 1% refers to the income level not the assets level. She was probably part of the bottom 5-10% in income level. If she'd been a 1% and frugal the way she was, she'd have been donating tens of millions probably.

Too bad less than half what you give the Salvation Army ends up in front of the people who need it.

Former wife of ray kroc(founder of mcdonald's), Joan Kroc, donated 1.6 Billion to the salvation army in when she died 2007.

I lived in Grand Forks, ND during a big flood back in '97. She gave everyone in town (about 50k people) a check for two grand, no strings attached. It was supposed to be anonymous but some a-hole figured out who it was and blabbed.

I'll never understand people who give to the poor. The poor don't know what it's like to have money, so why give it to them? It's not like they are missing anything by staying poor.

Meanwhile, the rich folk are losing money and becoming poor, causing emotional and even physical problems for them. They deserve the money more IMO.

I nominate this for the Troll post of the year. On the other hand, it's hard to argue against such logic.
