Poor winamp performance, what can I do?

I just upgraded to winamp 3 because of an awesome skin thanks to neomits

I loaded my big playlist, Estimated playlist length: 1330 hours 42 minutes 56 seconds or 55.416 days, which winamp 2.x played it just fine. Winamp 3 is very laggy with the same list. Even though the list is saved and loads in a couple seconds in winamp 2.x it takes almost a minute in winamp 3. The mouse lags when I hover over the skin, the visualization is also lagged. It takes a few seconds to change songs.

Is there a way I can dedicate more ram to winamp? Can I put it on higher priority?

P4 1.8ghz
512 PC2700 ram
8IEXP v2
the mp3s are on 7200 rpm hd

I guess I should be glad that I didn't uninstall 2.81

i used three for about as long as it will take you to read this before i uninstalled that piece of aol junk
