Poor taste in an article...

I was reading through the 865 article just now and I noticed a strange orange link on the word "network" on page 5...
http://www.anandtech.com/chipsets/showdoc.html?i=1823&p=5
I clicked it... and what was it.... an advertisement... Anand... your ads are OUT OF CONTROL.... don't turn into an MSNBC.com or something... I sure hope this is not something of a normality now...:-/
Hope to hear everyone's response...

Doesn't seem bad to me. If you hover over the link, it tells you what the ad is. It doesn't distract from the rest of the article. You don't have to click on it if you don't want to.

To me, I just see it no differently than a regular ad banner. Although I don't think that people have to much room to complain about a free hardware site as long as the reviews are good...but that's just my opinion.

I just feel that this type of ad is in poor taste. To me, it lowers the quality of the site, just as it would any site. "Hidden link ads" remind me of the warez sites out there that have succumb to the all mighty buck... not that I would know about warez sites... ;-)

If it had been a pop-up ad, I could understand your point, but this type of link/ad it totally voluntary so I don't see what the big deal is. Hardware sites have to make money in this failing economy. This isn't the 90's you know😉

True... I do find popup ads a LOT more annoying... but to incorporate it into your content... The equivalent in newspaper form would be to have an article about how it has been raining, and include in the ACTUAL text of the article telling people they should buy the "X" type of rain gear... It just seems in poor taste😉 I love the... have been an avid reader since it started... I just thought there were journalistic limits...
