Poor signal strength from Dlink AirPlus wireless G router

This is the router im using http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=6

I am only getting about 30% signal on the computer the router is providing a connection for. Once in a while it just looses connection altogether. The computers are less then 80feet apart on seperate floors. ive tried many different positions for the router but doesnt seem to help the signal. The wireless computer is picking up my neighbores network better then this router thats in the same house.

Is the router just a piece of crap or is there something wrong with it? When i got it from buy.com it looked like it was a return because the anti-static bag was already opened and the antenna was already screwed on.

well I RMA'd it. Do you guys think it was a defective dud or just the way it normally works? I tried to put them withen 15ft of eachother with only 1 wall between them and it was barely getting past 35% signal. Not sure if i should try the same router again and hope that one was a dud or try a different one altogether.

You must've had a dud coz I am using the same router and I can get signals even in the basement.

My house is made of wood so that makes a difference perhaps.

It may be because of the material your house is made of. I don't think it crosses well through concrete and steel.
