I'm hoping for some advice regarding my recent attempts overclocking my new 2500 Mobile. Everything I read told me that this is a pretty much guarantee at 3200+ speeds.
Well I have an Abit NF7-S v2, and some Kingston Value Select PC3200 so I figured I was all set. I plugged in the 2500+ and ran it at 166x11 to get Windows installed. I ran Prime 95 at this speed error free overnight.
I've been running it at 166x11 for a week or two, and I figured it was time to crank it up to 200x11.
Well it boots fine, gets to Windows fine at 1.65 Volts. I ran Prime 95 and I got an error after 5 minutes.
Well I can't imagine it being the RAM since it is supposed to be PC3200 so I put the CPU voltage to 1.6725V. This time I got 9 minutes before an error in Prime 95.
I cranked the voltage up to 1.7V and was able to get a whopping 13 minutes out of Prime 95.
I'm not sure if it is a CPU issue or not, as everyone has praised these for their overclocking potential. Let me give some more information.
Abit NF7-S v2
AMD Athlon XP-M 2500+
Thermaltake Silentboost
Antec Sonata with 380w PS
Kingston PC3200 RAM
Complete System Summary
Running Prime 95 my CPU got to 52C at 1.7V, which I don't consider to be too high, though I have my fan undervolted to reduce noise. If anyone thinks it is CPU heat I will put it to 12V and see what happens. I should mention here that Everest showed my CPU voltage at 1.66-1.68 even though it was set to 1.70V in the BIOS.
During Prime 95 my Northbridge got to 39C, likely due to the craptastic fan that Abit put on it along with not much airflow through the Sonata. Does this seem too high? I was planning on purchasing a Zalman NB47J Heatsink as well as another 120mm fan for the intake of the Sonata.
I can increase the RAM voltage too, but the PC3200 should run at 200MHz I would think.
If anyone has any suggestions please let me know.
