poor performance with 8rda and Maxtor ATA 133 Drive

I can't seem to get much better the ATA 100 performance. I get around 24000kB/s in Sandra Pro 2k3's file system benchmark, and around 700-800 in the HDD bench mark on PCmark2002.

This seem low to me. The ATA100 scores in Sandra are the same as I'm getting.

Are these good HDD benchmarks appz, any better ones?

I'm using the default windows drivers as the nforce drivers gave me worst performance (ver 2.03).

any ideas what could be the problem, or suggestions?, anyone else having similiar issues

Unless you are transmitting more than 100MB/s at a time (and with a non-RAID setup you aren't), you won't really see any benfits with ATA133 over ATA100.

Your scores are actually pretty low masterosok. I have an 8RDA+ and a pair of Maxtor ATA133 hard drives (60GB DiamondMax Plus 9s). I get about 1100 on the PCMark2002 test. I don't use the Sandra HDD test, Sandra is pretty crappy IMO.

Sandra and PCMark are BOTH unreliable, and mean pretty much zilch. As long as you're getting 25-30MBps, I wouldn't worry about it.

Yeah, you're right. I actually use HD Tach and Drive Speed to bench the drives but he didn't mention those... I can post those results if anyone wants them.

Very often, even with a RAID setup you won't get much more than about 60-70MB/s. The truth of the matter, is that ATA133 is nothing more than marketing hype brought to you by the fine folks at Maxtor (I like Maxtor drives, have 3 of them, just that ATA133 is a pointless and useless spec). Rarely is the ATA66 speed taxed, so ATA100 is more than enough. Even with the promise of SATA150, the speeds won't improve until drive speeds improve. In other words you start getting into 10,000 and more rpm (like the WD Raptor) THEN you will start to see some benefit of the higher speeds. Also, as a gereral rule, I don't benchmark, since I find them all to be useless. The only "benchamrk" I do, I suppose, is to use my system. If it does what I need/want it to do fast enough, than it is fast enough.

Cool, thanks.

Damn marketing tatics. I was thinking of getting one of those Raptors though, cause I just got a Abit NF7-s Rev 2.0.

Is the performance increase with the extra cash in your opinion?
