I just thought of this as I am renting a 400mm lens.

400mm on a 1.6 crop body = 640mm

Add my 2x TC = 1280mm

Okay....when's the next full moon?

I've used that combo myself; it's the perfect focal length of moon shots. Any shorter, and the moon isn't big enough. Any longer, and the moon moves too quickly to get more than one shot without recomposing.

ISO200 at f/8 or f/11 should get you a fast enough shutter speed. Just be sure to use a beefy tripod and head, self timer, and mirror-lockup if your camera has the feature.

A full moon is fine for pictures, but I find a partial moon to be more interesting, as the angle of the sun adds some relief to the surface features.

The point of renting is to spend LESS money, or try before buying, etc.

I just needed this for a one time thing really.

so who is liable for it? Fedex?

I imagine it was insured.

The place is going to refund me. Nobody signed for anything and all it says is "at facility" and they've said they have no clue where it is. *shrug* Nothing I can do.

why not ask them to send you another one? Since, 1) you still want to rent it right? and 2) they don't have to issue refund.

Because I rented it for this weekend and one can't get here fast enough.

Going to see if I can borrow a Bigma.
