Poor image quality with 6600GT PCIE ?

OK, here's the story - recently I got a new PC. I used to have a PC with an eVGA 6800 (vanilla) , 128MB, AGP. The image/video quality was excellent. In fact, I've never really had a problem with quality before - all the cards I've owned previously have been great (GF4 Ti, GF2 MX, etc. all AGP).

So, a few months ago I switch to a new PC. Its got an ECS Intel 915P motherboard with a unique dual PCI Express and AGP setup, but I think the AGP is limited in some kind of way, so for my video card I went with a PCI Express 6600GT.

The image quality was such a huge change was from my previous system it was beyond belief.

(before I continue I must add I'm *extremely* fussy when it comes to image quality - I still use a CRT monitor, and not an LCD. I don't know if the 'average' person would even notice.)

But I did. The brightness was WAY too high, it lacked sharpness/crispness...
When I tried playing DVDs, the picture was just too bright and lacked those deep rich colors. I figured it must be to do with the brand of card I was using (it was a cheap Xpertvision), so I switched to an eVGA. The brighness issue was slightly better this time, but still no where near as good as my old 6800/AGP.

When I watch a DVD for example, on my TV (a Sony widescreen HDTV), the difference is huge compared with watching it on the computer. On my TV (and old PC), the menus on the DVDs would have crisp, razor sharp text. On my current PC, the text, buttons, menus, its like they're all slightly out of focus, slightly fuzzy? I can't really describe it any other way.

This is beginning to drive me crazy. What is the problem? Should I switch to a higher end card such as a 6800GT? Is it something to do with the motherboard?
