Verdi says it is determined to strike until the company improves an offer that includes increasing weekly working hours to 38 from 34 and a gradual pay cut of 9%.

On Thursday, Deutsche Telekom reported a 58% fall in three-month profits, after more than half a million customers left its fixed-line business to join cheaper rivals.

Jee, I wonder.

Those douche Telecom people should feel grateful for not having their call center jobs sent to India.

If my company lost 58% of their profits due to increase competition, I would have to seriously consider taking the pay cut and work week increase. My job is only as solid as the company I would be working for.

In the early 1990's I was bargained with the union representing my employees and convinced them that we needed help against our non-union competitors. My employees agreed and took a 5% cut and worked longer days with no overtime. Since then, we have gained back some of the market share and wages have increased well beyond what they were before the cuts.

Just reality folks.

I'd be willing to take a 9% pay cut if I only had to work 38 hours a year! That's about 8 to 10 less than I'm working now on average.

Uh, think of it from their perspective, they have to work more hours to make less per hour. Why on earth would they give up what they had for THAT?
