For all of those out there that know more about monitors than me (thats everyone) -->

I need a decent monitor to use with a new computer that I will be building for college next year, but I want it to be a kickass monitor that looks great with games. Every "budget-gaming pc" article has expensive 19" monitors that are too expensive for my tastes. Maybe if there is a cheap 19" that is good (Optiquest maybe??) i would go 19" route, but otherwise, i guess im looking for a good/cheap 17incher. Thanks for any help. :D

What price range are you in?

Also, post this in Video or possibly General Hardware for more answers. Also try the 'search' tool on these forums for 19" monitors or monitor in general for a lot of help.

I got a 19" Proview at Circuit City $249.00 with a $50.00 mail in rebate.

Now Proview isnt considered top of the line but I sold my old monitor for $100.00, so I actually paid $100.00 for it & Im very pleased.

$200.00 retail for a 19" monitor is a pretty good deal.
Its a Proview 986 btw.

Hey, thanks alot for all of your help guys. Ill try out that search on the forums, and see if that helps out. To answer your question on my max amount of $$ willing to be spent, would probably be in the range of 350, because I cannot justify spending so much money on my monitor that it takes away from my hardware budget for the rest of the computer. Once again, its important to have a nice monitor for me to play games on, and one that wont break down in 2 years. Thanks for all of your help guys, i hope to hear back from you.

I would recommend getting a Sony 17. I know that at above $300 they're a bit expensive, but in my experience Sony is simply one of the best. Right now I have a Sony 420GS 19 which I got for $450, and before that I had a Sony 15 for 4 years, which is now on my backup PC and still looks good.
