But Napoleon was significantly influential in the development of France as a country. Thus it is logical that the derivitaive culture would also retain some of those values. It's not really any less valid than drawing on WW2 to evaluate France today.
And cultural influence often does not follow linearly with time (ie sometimes events that happened far in the past have had much more lasting impact than events that happened a few years ago)
Nope, cultural/religious influence is based on frequency and recency. If the culture is frequently impacted by one thing, say, many Napoleons, then Frances culture would have been more stoic, like the Germans. If their culture was driven by a need to conquer, then they would be much different.
By your logic, Norwegians and Icelanders should be war-mongers that conquer nations because of their Viking heritage.
😉 That isn't the case though, because they have a laissez-faire philosophy which they have been governed under frequently and recently for a long time. Just like the French.
