Poor farcry doom3 numbers with 6800GT

My system specs:
athlon 64 3000 (stock)
evga 6800GT (stock)
asus K8N-E deluxe nforce 3 250gb mobo
1 gig XMS corsair memory
120GB WD HD
Lite-on DVD/CD RW
sound blaster audigy 2 zs
antec SLK3700 350w
Windows XP SP2, directx 9.0c, Nvidia 61.77 forceware drivers
AGP aperature 256
fast writes off
aa/af and vysnc set to application controlled image setting at quality
60c idle 70-75c load

Farcry version 1.2 (max settings no aa/af) running fort demo using bench em all program
1600x1200 (vysnc on)38 fps
1280x1024(vysnc on) 49 fps

Doom 3 version 1.0 (high setting no aa/af) running timedemo demo1
1600x1200(vsync off) 44 fps
1600x1200(vsync on) 32 fps
1280x1024(vsync off) 51 fps
1280x1024(vsync on) 43 fps

Im not happy at all with those numbers compared to computers with the same specs as mine, its running about 30-50% less then some benchmarks ive seen on the internet. I did switch video boards during the build process, i went from a 9800 pro to the 6800GT and when i got the computer i still had an ATI directory on the hard drive which is not good. I ran driver cleaner and cleaned out the ATI stuff but i still get the same crappy fps numbers. Im not sure what to do at this point any help would be greatly appreciated. My last resort is a format of the hard drive and a clean install of the OS, problem is i have no floppy drive and i cant seem to find a bootable cd that actually works.
 
bump. i am also wondering if a clean os install is necessary after upgrading every component except for the HD?? i just recently built a new system around my 80gb HD
 
I havent switched mobos, this is brand new computer from monarch, i did change video cards during the build process before it was shipped out.
 
Having had ATI drivers originally which weren't removed properly before the Nvidia drivers were installed, I recommend a removal of the Nvidia drivers (including running a driver cleaner program), then reinstalling the Nvidia drivers.

Also, what are the core and mem speeds of the 6800GT? Most OEM cards are underclocked and have slower RAM, therefore they do not perform as well as the Retail cards.
 
I have deleted both the ati and nvidia drivers, ran a driver cleaner program, reinstalled 61.77 drivers no help. I have an evga 6800GT running at 350/1000 stock speed.
 
I think the Farcry benchmarks on the net are BS. I have an Athlon XP @ 2100 mhz, and I don't even get close to the framerates of anandtech. Anand gets 78 fps at 16x12, with 16x12 with 8x af, i often get minimum framerate in the 20s in some levels. this is with the 1.2 patch.
 
You should be getting about a 10000 3d03 mark score, if not something is wrong. I have a similar setup (P4 3.2, Geforce 6800GT, 1gig mem, and get over 10k in 3d mark). Try clocking down graphics card memory - if I clocked my memory high enough (1150) it ran but 3d mark scores went down, I suspect due to memory errors. Prehaps you have dodgy memory on your card?
The only other thing I can think of is it's running with some silly AA or AF setting that you have failed to turn off.
 
No doubt - that 3DM score is lower than my 5900NU put out (~5800 3DMs) and I'm getting 11266 with a year old 3200+ AXP. <scratches head> Have you tried switching off vsync in the driver control panel? I has problems with that recently, but not to the extent you're having problems.

480W powersupplys are only recommended for use with Geforce6800 ULTRAs. Even then, you should only worry if you have a lot of components in your system that draw power.

GTs require a 12v rail with at least 16amps. Check the side of your powersupply if you have any questions, you should be able to see a sticker with all the Volt rails and their amp ratings.

I would also recommend that you reinstall your motherboard drivers. Since you've got a nforce, you can get the drivers off of nvidias site here.

As a last resort, I would check your IRQs in your system properties and make sure the card is not sharing a IRQ with any other major devices.
