Poor Blockbuster.....Please dont go away.

I dont use Netflix nor will I stoop to using Redbox. Not that I have a problem with Netflix (I would use it if I watched enough videos), nor Redbox (even though I would have to stand in line with some questionable looking people with smelly underarms and smoking cigarettes).

Has anyone noticed that Blockbuster is not keeping their stores up-to-date? The store near my house is using the same 4 for $20 previously viewed DVD banner that it has had for years. I get depressed whenever I visit the store, between the ancient sales banners, sun faded Blockbuster sign (which never lights up at night anymore), disgusting stained carpet and old wooden fixtures (not to mention the employees who are still wearing High School Musical promotional T-shirts). I almost always choose one video and perhaps some candy or popcorn. Granted I do get one free video per month for $10 per year, so the snacks keep the lights on I guess.

Blockbuster should take some of the money they garnered when they increased the price of Total Access and use it to update the stores (and for heavens sake buy your employees some new shirts).

How can they compete with a box that works 24/7, doesnt talk back and dispenses movies for $1.00? Not to mention no healthcare costs just repair bills

All hail our new overlords the REDBOXES!!!!

The $1/day machines at the grocery stores aren't bad options. Probably will see more of those if BB goes away.

I spend like, 8 bucks on our one at a time netflix rental

I figure if I can go through 2 movies a month, it pays for itself.

Im afraid its all about raw capitalism now and automated machines will be used to cut costs and deliver value. My question is - how do unemployed people rent videos? 😕

But I do agree this is probably the future.

Rental stores are taking the same path payphones are taking. They're being made obsolete by online rental sites, redbox kiosks, renting/downloading the movie to watch, etc. etc. There's just too much overhead to compete with these other services.

You don't think people previously employed at Blockbuster could find another job? 😕

This is a complicated issue. Some companies grow, some contract, but right now with nationwide unemployment at 10% I wonder how quickly a former video rental clerk can become reemployed. In the old days you could walk into WallyWorld and take a job but even they are hiring less and cutting back expansion plans.

I have a plan to put people back to work - eliminate automation. If we went back to manually sorting records and keeping them in vast cabinets again that would create millions of jobs. We could even hire those people with smelly underarms who smoke cigarettes. What do you think?

I think I need your address so I can put you out of everyone's misery with a swift kick to the testicles.

How is paying 75% less for your movie "stoop[ing]" to redbox? It seems like you need to be reminded of the old saw about a fool and his money.

I hear you. I just dont like the clientele of Redbox, thats all. Im paying $10 per year for 12 free videos. That works out to .83 cents each. And I can keep them for a week. Now they arent first run, but I usually never pay to watch those anyway. I just wait until they hit cable. But if you are a big Redbox fan, more power to you. When Blockbuster shuts its doors for good I guess Ill be in the Redbox line with all the other ne'er do wells. 😉

I guess if you use redbox, you're a lowlife scumbag that doesn't measure up to FelixDeCat.

All I ask is that you shower daily and quit smoking. Is that too much to ask? Oh and go support Blockbuster so I can keep renting vidoes there. Is that too much to ask?

So you'll pay more just so you don't have to mix with people you think are low class?

Ill pay more to avoid people of any class with poor hygiene skills.

edit: And you know what Im talking about. Some people think because they dont have to go into a store (the boxes around here are outside), they dont care if they are wearing bedroom slippers and curlers.

I'm not sure what the hell you're talking about. Go live in a better area. I don't person Redbox, but there is one outside of Walgreens where I live. When I wait in the car while my wife goes in, all I see are teenage girls and 20somethings use that box. It sounds like you just live in a bad area.

bb can diaf.

My local redboxes don't work 24/7 since they reside in supermarkets that aren't open 24/7.

The fact that paying $4 for a rental vs $1 is what's killing BB. Redbox have very few selection and only 2 or 3 copies of new releases. For the same price I would go to BB.

You can get the same price at blockbuster with moviepass if you rent 22 movies a month.
