poor 3d mark 2001 score?

i got a xp2000+ system with 512 ddr (pc2100) and a radeon 9500pro, recently installed to replace gf3 ti200, i was getting almost 8000 with the gf3 but im struggling to crack 10,000 with the 9500pro. looking around i see many people hitting 12's and even 13's. anybody got an explanation as to this?
 
Try looking if you have the AA and AF set the lowest (2X) "then click defaults in both OpenGL and D3D tabs"!
i noticed that if i left the AA and the AF set on higher then norm and even if i reset everything (as application pref) i'll get low scores in 3d mark 2001SE!
