Pooor disk performance

Hey all, Please see my rig for details.

i've installed all latest 4in1 drivers, but in WinMe, large file transfers make my computer skippy. like, the mouse pauses whenever the disk light is on, and when it turns off, the mouse is normal. then when the disk accesses again, system pauses for a second also. very frustrating. this does not happen in 2000, which i am dual booting.

I'm not really clear on this but i did read somewhere on this mb that some were having problems losing usb connected devices when overclocking their CPU's on the SOYO DRAGON mobo.
Maybe this is related in some way to your poor hard drive performance.
Also does your drive have DMA enabled in the device manager ?

Holy crap, I finally figured it out. I want all SOYO Dragon owners to know that the Promise ATA100/RAID controller is REALLY BUGGY when used as an ATA100 Controller. That was my problem. Understanding that IDE devices should have their own channels, I had a DVD, CDR, and 2 HDs hooked up; the DVD and CDR were on the regular ATA100/66/33 connectors and the HDs were on the Promise ports. This was the problem. Moving the HDs to the regular ATA100 ports cleared up the problem and allowed me to enable DMA on my disks. IF you have a SOYO Dragon, *Do NOT* use the Promise controller as an ATA100 controller. It showed no problems in 2000, however. I perceive slightly better performance with the HDs not on the Promise.
