Pool Table

My dad is getting rid of his slate pool table and said that I can have it if I want it. Quick question, when I dis-assemble it, I know the slate is in 4 pieces.

What about the felt? Does that get thrown away and I have to pay to re-felt the table?

If its in good shape you could reuse it.

I guess I'm asking, how does the felt come off the table? is it just stretched and when I take it off the felt will be rolled up?

I know nothing about transporting pool tables, but maybe you can borrow/rent a large vehicle instead of taking it apart?

The felt might be stapled to the table. The only thing you should need to do is take the legs and possibly the rails off. Then just level it when you set it up next.

I think it depends on each table. Anyway, the felt should be pretty cheap. So take it apart and go from there. It might be rolled, glued, or stapled down.

Can you just take of the legs and move it without taking apart the top?

I worked in a bar with 13 pool tables and we had a guy come in and recover the tables. I doubt you could re-use the felt. Replacing the felt is not a do it yourself project if you want it done right.

yea thats what i would do.. i mean if you can get it out the door of house sideways or something without taking it apart

Its in a basement, so no way can I not take it apart. Besides, its a slate table, so it has to be taken apart. It would not be able to be moved otherwise.

I'd pay a pool table company to move it.

not from Cleveland to Chicago.

Pay them to come and set it up. My uncle just had one taken apart, moved 60 miles, and set up again reusing the old felt and I think it was around $300. Think new felt would have added another $100 ish to that. Money well spent IMO. Thats heavy stuff and needs to be setup right or its worthless to play on.

Yeah, I think I'm gonna U-Haul it to Chicago and then pay a professional to set it up.
