Holy crap!

What a poor kid! And such an unexpected injury. I can't even imagine what that would feel like. She had to have her entire (what was left of it) small intestine removed. /me shudders.

This is honestly the golf clubs fault, and has nothing to do with the parents. It could have happened to anyone.

Imagine that, 6 years old and she will never be able to eat again.....

i saw a Dateline (or similar show) on this topic years ago. I thought that pressure relief drains were mandatory now? Anyway, terrible story.

Wow, that's horrible. I can't believe that a wading pool would be allowed to have the drain be uncovered and have the suction that strong.

If I understand correctly, pool drains are what put John Edwards on the map.

All I have to say to those who like to complain that Edwards is a trial laywer is this... How would YOU like to be disemboweled by a pool drain, when it has been know that these things are defective and need to be FIXED?

Yipes, how horrifying and sad. This didn't have to happen.....

Guess I never realized how strong the suction on a small pool drain can be.

Yes the case put him on the map, but what made most of his money was medical malpractice, in which science his disproven some of his cases after the fact.

How does John Edwards being a trial lawyer and making himself a multi-millionaire keep my intestines from being sucked out?

cost of litigation vs cost of settlement vs cost of improving product.
always a fun calculation. sure lawyers suck, but do you think companies do the right thing without them?

Do you think they do the right thing with them? If a company is selling very large quantities and collecting a lot of revenue, sometimes it's cheaper for them to deal with lawsuits than it is to correct the problem even if it means people will lose their lives. There have been cases on this in the past and I wish I kept my law class notes to bring up the names.

It's unfortunate for the consumers of the products that are run by companies like this, but what can we do?
