Curious to see if people that own a smart phone also own an mp3 player. Seems redundant to me. The only situation I can think of where it would be helpful to own both is owning an ipod nano for running. Pool included

I only own an MP3 player, but I could imagine battery life, size and capacity would be the main reasons to own both.

I have both.
I don't want to run down my phones battery playing music or games.

I'm a luddite - I don't have either one :)

I think I'm the only person in my office without a smartphone.

I just finished up a prototype smartphone design (iMX37), but have no real desire to own such a device.

Bingo. I also like to be able to turn off my work (smart) phone on weekends or vacations, and still have an iPod for games, videos and music.

I have both. I prefer to use my clip on iPod shuffle while mountain biking. Much more convenient than a phone.

I have a non-smart phone that plays mp3's.
That describes me as well. I see no reason to pay nearly $1000 for a smartphone every two years for more people to bother me while I'm not at work. I also see no reason for an MP3 player when my phone does it all. Sure, it takes a few seconds delay while it is stupidly loading the library that didn't change from last time. But, other than that, the standard cell phone does quite well.

I own neither at the moment but only because my mp3 player broke. I hope to get a new one on Saturday ;D

I was going to buy an iPod Touch 64GB which is obviously just a MP3 player (though it has some smartphone functions); but now I think I'll just go with an Android phone and get an SD card to make up for the lesser space.

I own both, because I don't use my smartphone for music

My Nano 2G is used in the car to store music, and occasionally for when I don't drive I use it to listen

My phone does all its phone tasks

I have an iPhone and an old 25GB iPod Video, which I don't even use anymore. I've pretty much moved to having everything on my iPhone or just streaming via Last.fm or Pandora.

Bah...the damned string kept breaking...I threw those away too. No cell phone of any kind, no "music player" of any kind...If I want to listen to music...I turn on the radio...or play a cassette...or play a CD.

My phone's dumb, and it'll likely stay that way until I can get a smart phone for under $100, and pay no more than $25 a month for service. I have a bunch of MP3 players, but they're all small devices. I'm a huge fan of old Sandisk players from Woot. They do exactly what I want, and they're cheap. I don't care about huge amounts of storage, or a big LCD. That's what my desktop and netbook are for.

Well I'm at least glad to see you're catching on to the new and exciting world of CDs :p

I own both. Like you mentioned in the OP, I have a Nano for using when working out. I guess it would be possible to strap my EVO on but not comfortable in the least with that heavy thing bouncing around.
