OK guys, I still miss my 1997 BMW 540i. So what is your pick? Pontiac GTO, BMW 330 or used 2002 BMW 540i?

I would say 330i if it were me. I would not want to be financially responsible for maintaining a 540i with little time left on its warranty.

another vote for 540i. Some suckers already absorbed the new car depreciation and well broken it in for you, now you can have fun with it. :D

the 2003 540i's have the m5 aero kit i believe . and they should all be relatively cheap compared to the new five (not to mention, better looking and bulletproof). sounds like a great buy to me.

540i would be my reccomendation, followed by the GTO. Stay away from the 330i, overpriced and underpowered crap.

318i????

I hope that is some sort of sarcasm.

If you got the cash, go for the 540. However, I would also think the GTO would be pretty sweet to have. BMW seems to be getting cliche so getting a GTO would be a bit more unique.

GTO for me - I've never really cared about BMWs, they just don't excite me. They're cars that cost a lot to maintain, not very reliable, and their dealerships are few and far between to get them serviced.

The GTO's drivetrain is bulletproof, and I don't think I'll have to worry about fit and finish since the vehicle is really a Holden. It might be owned by GM, it doesn't share the same crappy finish that US built GMs have. Plus, the aftermarket support for the engine is HUGE, parts are cheap, and I can get it serviced practically anywhere :p

The 330i is not underpowered. It has plenty of power and is probably around the same acceleration as the heavy 540. Have you driven a 330i (manual)?

Freakflag, I saw many "educated" people trashing their cars in the ditch while trying to mimic my cornering due to their rear rigid axle. Please tell me the this "tang" has at least independent suspension.

540i here.

The 540i is such a nice car. I would take a 2002 540i over the newer 5 series, just maybe....
