slippery slope

if you allow polygamy, you have to allow everything, 2 men, 2 women, 3 women and a goat, group marriage, marrying children, family members, etc etc etc

By nature, animals are inclined to spread their seed to ensure the continuation of their species.

But would you really want 3-4 Fran Drescher's bisching and complaining?

That is how the religious nut-jobs like to cast it, dont you?

With divorce rate at 50%, if someone wants to double (triple, quadrouple, etc) their own pain and suffering, why would you stop them? As long as all parties involved do so at their own free will, I don't see a problem. Monogamy is a very christian idea to start with.

So what's the problem with polyandry?

No guy wants sloppy seconds or terrible thirds...

But girls do?

fundamental difference is this. every woman in a polygamous relationship knows her children are hers. so at least she gets to pass down something, evolutionary speaking. its acceptable. with polyandry only 1 man can impregnate the woman every 9 months at most and no one is sure he is the one. not a good situation for any man evolutionary. basically its close to evolutionary suicide for most of the men. 1 or none is not enough to ensure anything. and its why its been so rare.

i'm sure the government doesn't want to handle the logistical nightmare with revamping the way people claim spousal dependents when they file taxes. i know certain religions allow more than one wife, but that surely won't fly in this country. i can't think of it being a moral issue. you have more than 1 wife and it's illegal, but you have 1000 girlfriends and you're the man

I don't think I could deal with another woman. Seriously. Just keeping up with my wife is enough.

I know a girl in a polygamous relationship.

First one she has ever been in, and from the sounds of it the guy has 2 normal relationships (married to the one dating the other, and yes the spouse does know). I wouldn't WANT to keep up with that. No thanks.

I'll just find myself a bi girl where we can both enjoy a 2nd girl on occasion that is more of a one night stand type of deal, then two full relationships.

It's a problem of ratio.

If roughly half the children born are male and half are female, for every man who takes a second wife, there will be one with no wife.

Don't remember all the details, but Sociology suggests that as the number of single men increases, so do things like violence

I'm not defending polygamy but this is the worst argument I've ever seen...really. There is no substance there at all.

If the government gets out of the income tax business, the whole issue is moot. You can do whatever you want and only churches will be supporting a particular lifestyle.

Maybe my sarcasm meter is broken. I'll check the batteries. :D

slippery slope? really? i'm pretty sure religions that allow polygamy don't allow people to marry animals.

children and family members may be another story but you don't need polygamy for that, just look at american history.
