Recently built an AMD A64 3500+ New Castle. At first I used the stock HSF with the thermal pad that it came with. I didn't like my temps of 53-56C under load and around 47C no load. I decided to grab a Thermaltake POLO 735 3 in 1 HSF. I applied arctic silver 5 (thin layer) and then placed this heatsink as described. It is running at roughly 4000 rpms (manual), and I still get the same exact temperature readings. What gives? I have a scorpio 868 case (http://store.yahoo.com/amamax/sc86blatxmid1.html) with the upgrade to the 600W power supply. It has two rear exhaust fans, 2 front intake fans, and a side (window) intake fan. It seems to be good flow. What is my problem? Why did the 735 show no tmeperature change? My friend has a similar setup (3500+ newcastle with polo 735) and he is running at around 37C idle and 40C load. I am curious why I am so much higher.
By the way, I am not OC. It is the stock 2.2Ghz. However, when I tried a 2.4Ghz (200Mhz) OC, I was running at 49C idle, go figure!
Any thoughts (that don't involve buying another HSF, hopefully) ?
