These "supposed" voter inquiry polls are pure nonsense. Ever wonder why today Candidate A is up by 1/2% and the next day Candidate B is up by 1/2% only to be passed yet again the following day by Candidate A?

It's a horse race and it has everything to do with newspaper sales, TV news ratings, web-site visitor ratings, ad-clicks, etc. All these media organizations know that people LOVE a neck and neck race. If Candidate A is ahead by a 45% margin people are going to stop following the race! What happens in a sporting event when one team is dominating the other near the beginning of the game? People turn it off!

As long as the media can keep everyone believing things are neck and neck they will continue to rake in the $$$. Even worse, we get sheeple REPOSTING these silly polls here on AT like it's some huge topic for debate. People are going to vote for who they are going to vote for, bottom line. Why waste time following these polls? We all know how accurate they have been in the past (as in: not at all).

Why are you shocked or angered by candidates fluctuating within a poll's margin of error? That doesn't make them nonsense, it makes them polls that are behaving exactly as the pollsters admit up front that they will.

The polls being released recently certainly ARE news as they are reporting results outside of the margin of error, meaning that their results are statistically significant. The results coming back now are showing Obama in the lead with a large enough margin that we can be fairly certain it's accurate. What can I say? People like to talk about good news.

Well it is not neck and neck any more. There is nothing that can change that fact Obama will win by reagan 84 type numbers. Obama has an 8 point lead that will continue to get larger by the day thanks to the MSM putting the wallstreet mess on McCain. I doubt anyone will even care about the second debate because Obama will have a 10-15 point lead by then.

That really made you laugh your ass off?

I got that from the tone of what he wrote. The people following the polls are 'sheeple', the polls themselves are 'nonsense', following the polls is a 'waste of time', they are 'not at all accurate'. Much of this is based off of his contention that all polls do is have the two candidates fluctuate back and forth between small leads that tell you nothing. So, when a post has an angry tone about it and cites one piece of evidence, it is reasonable to believe that the piece of evidence cited has contributed to the angry tone.

Why did I have to write that? You're quickly becoming one of the more annoying contributors on here. There's enough competition already, you don't really need to throw your hat into the ring.

eskimospy sounds like the angry one to me, angry that someone would question the divine un-official poll numbers handed down from God himself (our media).

LMAO. You think you know he's not angry and make a joke of eskimo when all you had to do is ask the OP if he's angry or not. He might agree he's pissed as hell or just passing along some advise. Mr. OP, what's emotional state do you admit to?

While the Wall Street mess isn't helping McCain, to be fair, he is tanking because of the Palin interviews.
And there is no way that any candidate is going to be winning by Reagan numbers any election soon.

And I'd appreciate that the OP didn't complain about sheeple on the left when I know what the right is going to post each day before they post it because I know where they get their daily talking points (including this one).

Meh... it's just par for the course for him: project a certain behavior or mentality onto others so a lame argument can be made. The funny thing is, if you read any given post of his, it's obvious who's truly angry and disturbed.

It's news because Obama is up and historically speaking it's unlikely that anythings going to change if much at all, with a 3-4% lead it's pretty much guaranteed win for Obama.

The upcoming debate will probably only increase his lead.

I am not on the left or right. I don't have any talking points assigned to me from anywhere. You are paranoid.

The poll numbers aren't handed down by the media, they are handed down by scientific polling agencies that make their entire living off of providing accurate polling data to campaigns, individuals, corporations, etc. While the news networks, etc. do polling of their own, this is frequently farmed out to these professional polling firms anyway. So no, the poll data isn't handed down by the media, it's handed down by professionals in the business.

It most certainly does make me angry when people discount things like this and attribute these polling results to some sort of far reaching conspiracy involving dozens of various corporations and thousands of people. It's ridiculous.

So, Gallup, Rasmussen, GW/Battleground, Marist, Bloomburg, are all media companies who are manipulating the result?

What DOES happen is many anchors and pundits, out of deference to both candidates and the process, will call a race that is within say 5 points a 'horse race'. In this case, the pundits have been saying for about 4 days now that Obama is pulling ahead a bit.

Furthermore, your understanding of the psychology of humans is abysmal. We like a train wreck as much, if not more, than we like a 'horse race'. Also, simply because Obama is ahead by 8 NOW is no guarantee he's going to win. Anything can happen in politics, and frequently does. Just hold on and enjoy the ride. :)

No, the train wreck comes later silly. If you have the wreck now, you can't string everyone along for the next two months!

Then perhaps you should lighten up and not take an Internet forum so seriously. It's not worth the high blood pressure. Have fun with it, engage with people, etc... but when you start getting angry, you need to take a break.

I'm not actually physically angry sitting at my computer fuming. I'm just posting between doing other stupid things here at work. What I mean by angry is more that I am annoyed by it.

With the Dow down over 400 points, McCain's Intrade value at it's lowest point, and the polls pointing to an 8 point lead for Obama, I think I hear the rumble of good ol' Number 9. :)
