Not here to trump up some huge win for Gary Johnson, the article clearly states his polling numbers as being around 6% and you can sell that when asked if they held a favorable view more said unfavorable than favorable(although overwhelmingly people had no opinion whatsoever as they are most likely lacking information on the candidate). It's just rather silly that such a company would put on blast public opinion, no matter how small, simply because they don't like or agree with it. Not to mention this really just doesn't look good for them as far as reputation goes. I've said it a few times, but I work for a market research firm and we do political polling as well. Someone would definitely get fired for this kind of blunder.

Actually, he's actively going after the Paul supporters now. GF and I both received letters from him recently as we both donate/contribute to his campaign that was clearly targeted towards Paul supporters to get them over to his side.

Still doesn't change the fact that by limiting choices all around in things like these polls leads to choices being limited when they get to the polls. The more options shoved into everyones face, the more they have to become aware of other options. Dumbing it down doesn't do any good except allow those who manipulate the dumbing down process to maintain control over the system. Self fulfilling prophecy.

Also to add techs there have been polls done where they replace Mitt Romney with Gary Johnson and he gets a high enough percentage to participate in the polls.

Polling is all about how and what you ask. It's much less a science as it is a manipulation of a persons thought.

Let me just preface by saying I love the fact that a 3rd party candidate runs and that it's the Libertarian party. As nuts as some of their ideas are, I find them inspiring, in a way, and their ability to get on the ballot and get a proper amount of recognition is good for democracy here in the U.S. I agree with Paul that the odds are really stacked up against 3rd party candidates due to the Dem-Repub monopoly, especially in terms of just getting on the ballot. But the option has to be there, it must be there. One day, one of those 3rd parties, be it the Libertarian party, Tea Party or some OWS hybrids, will significantly impact and reach critical mass against either the Dems or Repubs in a national race. I certainly look forward to that day, as I believe the current 2-party system is simply not healthy.

And agreed on the point about PPP not displaying good PR here. But no one will get fired over that, or at least they shouldn't. That's a slap on the wrist. Gary Johnson is going to garner roughly 2% of the vote as Libertarians always do in the national race, so I get the sentiment if PPP is being bombarded the way Paul supporters bombard the Internet.

First, I completely understand being annoyed with bombardments but it was a silly thing to say when gauging public interest is your game and you're complaining about public interest.

I'm hoping we see varying numbers of support for the other parties across the States this year. I'd like to see all of the small parties take votes from the big two. Socialists, Greens, Rent to Damn High, everyone deserves to be heard at that stage and it's ridiculous that they're shut out simply because they're viewed as "outside the norm" or "quacky". Oh how far we've fallen here in the USA. The more dialogue and exchange of competing ideas, the greater the ideas we will come up with.

I can see the remark as bad PR, but I'm not sure why it is interpreted as PPP somehow not liking or disagreeing with Johnson. I read the twitter remarks as someone at PPP being annoyed at the quantity of e-mail he is receiving from Johnson supporters. For better or worse, libertarians tend to be extremely...vocal. I can understand the annoyance, even if making it public was a bad idea.

As the link states, PPP is one of the few pollsters to actually include Johnson by name. Most do not. So I really don't think Johnson supporters have much to complain about with respect to PPP.

It took a lot of pestering for it, but yeah they do include him and most of us do appreciate that. TBH that's probably why so much offense was taken.
