Starz. They don't have the original shows like HBO, but I hate most of HBO's original shows anyway. Plus Starz has the LOTR trilogy. :)

HBO does have good shows like Sopranos, Rome, and maybe even Bill Marh. However their movies really been sub-par. Movies like The Wedding Date, Ring Two, and Hide And Go Seek -- some really trashy videos.

Is it some deal where you get it for free?
I was going to say (not meaning to flame) that both suck. It seems that 90% of the movies are the same, month after month after month.

If you're considering paying for one or the other, add netflix to your poll. Probably cheaper, and you'll have a better selection. Before I moved, I had all of the pay channels... HBO, Starz, Cinemax, TMC, etc. Over a span of 2 months, I tried to record as many movies as I'd like to watch - I have a dvd recorder. Every day, I'd look and see if there were any movies that I wanted to record to watch at a later time... every night before going to sleep, I'd look through the listings. After 2 months, and 30 movies (most of which are still frequently on), I realized that it would have been far cheaper to just get netflix.

6 months later, we had all the channels available again to us (moved and switched to directv; extra channel deal at a steep discount for a few months). Most of the same movies were still playing. I'd go through the listings, quite annoyed, looking at when the movies originally came out - 1984, 1982, 1990, 2001, 1988,... Very few were new releases.

If you have to choose between the two though, I'd go with HBO.

My area in New Jersey, one of the most industrialist states in the union, is 90-110 dollars a month. This is of course the going rate for digital cable with 120 channels of crap and 5 movie channels from HBO.

Correction, day after day after day.

Ever since I got a TV and cable box in my Room. I've noticed a lot more how repetitive HBO is.

The whole HBO Comedy, HBO Family, HBO 2, and HBO is all just the same. Shrek 2 on family while Shrek 2 comes on again 3 hours later on HBO on the same day no less. It's all computer generated programming. I don't think there is humans anymore working over there in cable HQ.

Yeah, I commented to my wife the other night about that. Other than the Sopranos, HBO hasn't shown anything good this month.

All movie channels suck for movies. Netflix > any of them, for about the same price. HBO is great because their original shows are for the most part the best shows on TV, and because they have some good sports shows and boxing.

Can't argue that. I can't wait for Rome to return.
