Poll: Zero tolerance for DUI followed by manditory prison time measured in years

I'm not talking about DUI checkpoints here (which I feel are unconstitutional), I'm talking about any kind of nonsense (swerving in lane... w/e) that would normally get you pulled over... or any kind of wreck where the police decide alcohol was involved. I think that manditory prison time for some obscene amount of time would really curb this as an "issue" in our society. So many people I've met, even college educated people feel that its okay to drive with a beer or two under their belts. Nobody who takes chances with alcohol and other people's lives deserves to have a life and should be marred with the mark of felon for all eternity.

I can't stand this nonsense. Who's with me?

you have to be careful when you talk about people driving "with a beer or two under their belts", because unless they're a featherweight they're still below the limit in most states. I agree that the penalties should be very harsh.

Maybe not prison time; prisons are already over crowded. But a bigger fine or license getting revoked for 4 years may be good.

First offense? No. Absolutely not. Hell fvcking no, thats ridiculous to even consider.

Second offense? Yes.

You're a little nuts. You're ranking a DUI, without hurting anyone, as bad as actually killing someone. Yes, the potential is there, but if you didn't do it, you shouldn't be punished for it. Not the first time anyway. End of story.

Agree completely with this. Take away the license for minimum one year AND minimum $5,000 fee.

There is absolutely no valid reasons to be driving while intoxicated.

Yeah, we should just wait until someone actually kills someone.

Yeah, we should just wait until someone actually kills someone.

So we should completely abolish handguns in this country. After all, you've got the POTENTIAL to kill someone if you've got a gun.

I knew it wouldn't take you long to throw out your .02 on this. :disgust::roll:

Second offence, in other words let's give someone a second chance to kill or mame someone by being an asshat and driving drunk.

No Sir. I am speaking explicitly to first time offenders. Everyone thinks they're going to get a first time offender wrist slap. I want manditory prison time. Anyone stupid enough to drive when they KNOW that they won't be legal NEEDS to be removed from our society long enough to reassess their values and I'd happily pay my share of the liberal tax increase to support it- all the while knowing, that I am again safe to drive dangerous backroads at night because drunks in giant SUV's won't be straddling both sides of the road

Is there a valid reason for owning a handgun? Yes.
Is there a valid reason for driving drunk? No.
Did your analogy just get PwN3d? Yes.

Spare me your bullsh!t. If you drink and drive ones, and you don't hurt anyone, theres a very good chance you won't do it again. If you do it again, yea, big punishments. It is absolutely ridiculous to think someone should get YEARS for a DUI on the first offense.

If you want to talk about guns, this is more like trying to miss the broad side of a barn your eyes closed.

I don't care what your valid reason for owning a handgun is. Doesn't mean you can't kill someone with it. My analogy is perfectly valid.

If you didn't hurt anyone, you shouldn't be punished as if you had, end of story.

Here's an idea. Don't drive drunk! That way you won't get pulled over NOR will your fraternity try to kick you out and make you whine about it in #neochat. 😛

Edited for the thought process of drunkards.

Have you been to jail? 48 hours may not be much, but you go to jail for 48 hours with nothing to think about what you've done, and there is a very, very good chance you won't do it again.
