***POLL*** Your Wireless Network speeds.

I guess you are asking for actual throughput and not connection speed... as I'm connected at 11Mbps right now using my B Adapter. Speeds are between 300-800K depending on what I'm xferring with, what level of encryption/filtering and what router I have connected at the moment.

I've just ordered a G Adapter so I should be back in the 2200-2600K/s range w/ 128WEP when that arrives = ~17-18MBit/Second.

On my wired lan I get about 8-9KB/s so 72MBit/s throughput.

802.11* stuff is very misleading on actual throughput. Something about the 11b protocol uses 1Mbit for negotiations so even at 11Mbit/s 'connection' you have a lot of 1Mbit overhead. Not sure how G improves upon that, but it is faster.
 
What I am asking is your ACTUAL speed between 2 networked computers.

I got the 'g' stuff which should be 54Mbit but in reality I only have 500 to 800 kbit.
Looks like this stuff is really sensitive to bad signal.

Well the good thing though, is if you really need a large file transferred within the network, you can plug-in and get that 100Mbps... am I right ? Please tell me yes... cause my Netgear wirelessG combo is being shipped today. 😉

So you're getting 1/100th the speed the router is supposed to be capable of? You think there might be something wrong, maybe?

I have 11mbit equipment and I am able to get 3-4 mbit across it.

Yes I do think there is something funky going on.
The signal has to go through a wall and a door, the signal strength says 'Normal" (I think it is 50% looking at the indicator).

How far away is your computer from the router notfred? Any wall / doors between?

That would be great. I am considering building a custom antenna with higher gain for the computers on the 'receiving' end.

The router is upstairs and the computer moves around downstairs, there's usually at least a floor between the two.
 
oppps i voted wrong :/ ours is prob 1 of the slowest one "500kbit" However im on direct cable modem so i dont get the slow speeds ;p of the old 1st gen wireless networks.

Something funky going on with my stuff then.

Just setup my 2200bg card and Dell Truemobile 1300 Router, with 64bit wep, getting throughput of 2500KB/s or ~20Mbit on a 54Mbit G Connection.

On my Netgear MR814(802.11b router) w/ same 2200bg card I got ~5-600KB/s or 4Mbit speeds.

Using the MR814 w/ the Lucent Silver card (old PCMCIA card) was 3-400KB/s or ~3Mbit speeds.


Sounds like poster is only negotiating B speeds. Check and make sure both the card and router have g enabled (they do by default).
 
connected at 11mbit/s. however my router supports higher I just haven't gotten around to getting new wireless cards yet.
