i was VERY impressed with it actually. the memory bandwidth is through the roof and they seemed to have fixed their mistakes that they had with the 5800.

My only reservation is the POS signal quality, pointed out in either firingsquad or anandtech (I forget)

It took nVidia almost a year to catch up with ATi in terms of speed. Is that impressive even though they ended up slightly surpassing ATi in the process in terms of speed but still came up short in terms of IQ? No.

You certainly have to be kidding, how long has ATI played Catch up with nvidia in the first place, it was only a matter of time before they were knocked back down.

the only realy bad thing I'v read about so far on the nv35 is the fan, it may be very silent in 2d mode but it spins up in 3d, its not as loud as the nv30 POS but still louder than the radeon

silent soooon :D

If nvidia had slaughtered the R300 like the R300 did the GF4 line I'd be impressed, that's clearly not the case though.

ATI still holds best value and I don't think much of anything will be worth looking at till the next generation of cards come out from the both of them.

I feel anything faster than a 9700pro is a waste of cash, that's just my thought though.

Yes, n35 definetily has the mega-something looks. but price. Is it worth it (Consult my sig to see what i mean). I mean, just when some of us (i hope people are smarter than this, EVEN if they got $ to burn) would buy the 5900 Ultra, the 5900Ultra 2 or something else would come out, making 5900 seem obsolete. Just when i got the nforce2, n3 came out a week after! Just when my friend got a kick ass system on kt266, kt266a boards came out! I like those people with patience: they would get their 9800 pros in a year for 220 on newegg, or less. I was really frustrated when i spent 2000 dollars on a system in summer of 2000 (Taiwan crisis). I had to buy 1 256mb pc133 stick for 340 dollars!!! What the hell was i thinking? In 4 months it became like 90 dollars! I got my GF2 GTS for 300 too! Watch this 5900 crapoling will be like 300 in 5 months, when its not hot anymore.

You must of forgot the R300 came out last August. And then it wasnt really available until Sept\Oct.

IQ??? Are you kidding me????? AF quality the NV35 is nicer. The R300\350 doesnt do much of any AF except at angles of 22.5, 45, and 90 degrees. FSAA some argue looks nicer on the R350. But it appears blurrier than the NV30 and NV35 version. And I dont think that is how AA is supposed to look.

Catch up and passed the R350 in terms of speed. On avg it is a good 20-30% faster and that is with 4XAA+8XAF.

ATI needs to play catch up. Should be interesting.

The 56ooUltra anand used is looking good. If I didn't have a 9500Pro already I would get one of those.

Impressed? Yes. Will I buy it? Hellz no. Besides the fact that I have a 9700Pro already, who in their right mind can justify spending $500 on one component in a computer!!!! Yeesh, I almost felt dirty just for spending ~$300 on my 9700Pro...

Fricken ridiculous.

I'm past the point of the 'speed' or what's 'fast' thingy...... I've all the games I enjoy now, and have no issues at all, quite happy......
What's important to me now is visual quality. Until nv addresses this problem, I'll stay away, gladly trading a very few fps if trading anything at all.
Should nv choose to make a card of visual quality, it would be considered. But I gotta see some real quality first, I've been spoiled ;)

Until there is a *HUGE* advance in rendering technology (I'm taking about something like geometry interpolation, not just faster or clearer AA/AF), I will stick with my GeForce3 for the time being. :)

Have fun playing Doom 3 at .5 fps.

Ati still holds the best value? did you not read the entire review?

ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 256MB MSRP $499

EXACTLY the same price as the NV GFFX 5900 Ultra

Impressed yes...though I'd rather have a Radeon 9800pro mainly because the reviews I've seen said the fan was quiter in the Radeon...that and it wasn't like it squashed the 9800pro. So the impressed isn't more of a "impressed because of its preformance with other cards" more so than a "impressed on how quickly nVidia bounced back from a lackluster card and created a truly worthy successor"

But will I buy it? Nope. I consider 100 dollars for a card to be pushing my limit and with 500 I'd rather build a PC than buy a Graphics Card. So if nVidia is really thinking about making a lot of these they shouldn't and they should be using the 5900FX's reputation to be pushings its mainstream cards (just like what ATI did with the 9700PRO)

I must say I'm impressed on many levels. Not all, but overall I AM impressed.

What I like:
- Major speed increase, very competitive
- Enhancements to speed up AA/AF routines
- Addressed quality concerns and improved image quality substantially!
- Solid driver support. Not perfect, but solid. (To die-hards: A little better than ATI... not THAT much better.) ;)

What I do NOT like:
- Two slot design will not work for me. (Single slot coming soon, though likely slower)
- Far, far too expensive
- Fan still too loud to cool off a card that's too hot and too power-hungry.
- Just too darn big.

What I will more likely buy:
Radeon 9600 - because it's fanless, silent, cool, FAST ENOUGH, and reasonably priced.
Radeon 9000 AIW - because it's just fast enough for my kind of gaming, but awesome video in/out stuff.
Radeon 8500LE/9100 variant - because by golly it's dirt cheap and still pretty darn fast. :)
GFFX 5600? New version is reasonably fast, but will it require power and fan cooling? This is a possibility, but you'll notice it's low on the list.
Matrox P650 - Parahelia Lite. :) Awesome multi-monitor and 2D. Some gaming potential... expensive for what you get though. But if I got a super price, I'd be happy with it! Silent passive cooling too.

I'm not a 3D game nut... but once in a while I do need something a LITTLE better than onboard Savage8 video. ugh... :disgust: And TOP-NOTCH 2D and TV output is a must for me!
