poll: YACT: help me pick a used car

ever since i've graduated back in MAY, i've decided to get a car, since it is pretty much required to look for jobs and for work commute (car takes ~45 minutes while my daily car-pool is taking ~2 hours)

so i'm considering these cars, but since they are on classified i don't know the condition of these cars:

1) a slew of maximas:
- 99' GLE 65k miles with leather and sunroof, $5500
- 96' GXE 92k miles with power windows, $3250
- 96' GXE 83k miles with sunroof, $4000
-yet another 96' GXE, milage unknown, $3600

2) 92' corolla LE 58k miles and "Mechanically sound" (that part worries me), $2700

3) 02' dodge stratus with ABS (standard) and 33k miles. i bet this is a SE (cheapest version), $4900

4) 92' lumina, i think with a V6, with around 100k miles. bad struts and weak AC, but otherwise problem-free tranny and engine. it'd cost around $500 or free since it's from one of my relatives.

currently i lean towards the 99' maxima and the ultra cheap lumina. i called the guy with the 99' maxima and no answer. i don't know if it's still available. the lumina will be available in janurary.

should i consider the other cars i listed? are the 96' maximas cheap? how about the stratus? (i've read bad reviews about it on edmunds)

thanks

I think it is better to get a 96 car with lots of miles on it than a 92 car with little miles on it.

STAY AWAY FROM NEW YORK CITY CAR! those car got the hardest miles on them, even they have little miles on it. you will know if you ever driven in nyc.

funny thing you should mention NYC. all of these cars should be from NYC since it's listed on a NYC newspaper

and yeah i know what you're talking about. brooklyn traffic is crap.

go to look it up in autotrader. get your car from NJ or PA will be better than from NYC. it is not only the traffic is crap, the road is totally crap too.

thanks guys i called the maxima guy this morning and i left a message but no replies.

im gonna keep trying. i passed up a $5000 95' acura legend with similar milage recently because the seller didn't get back to me =/

and now he re-directs his calls to voicemail... grrrr

and by the way i tried autotrader, but i think better deals are likely to pop up on newspaper classified. i think all of the maximas (especially the 99') are pretty good deals, and the stratus is pretty cheap too (although i do read of many transmission problems)

thanks
