Poll: XBox 360 vs PS3

My uncle has a brand new PS3 that he purchased a month ago, but he hasn't played it yet so it's practically brand new. He said he will sell it to me for $300 if I wanted to buy it. Now I'm contemplating on getting that for $300 or the XBox 360 for the same price. I already have a Nintendo Wii, so yeah, which would be the better buy for the same cost? This is one of those longterm investments for me as I intend to keep if for 4-5 years until a new console comes out. Thanks!

Also, can the PS3 be used as a DVR? A buddy of mine has a 72" widescreen HDTV and a PS3, so he's been trying to find out if he can run his console as a DVR for his media room. I've heard about people installing Linux on the PS3, but I hear it takes a while for the OS to boot up until MythTV can run or something. Enlighten me, please.

yeah the PS3 is probably worth more than 300, you might be able to return it at walmart and get a fat walmart credit.

don't screw over your Uncle like that. Personally, at $300, if you have an HDTV, I would go with the PS3 (if its the deluxe model).
 
hrm ... i keep telling myself i won't get a PS3 until they are close to $300.

but that's only cause I have an xbox360. i wouldn't pay more than $300 for a PS3 regardless though.

but if I had the option, I'd definitely go with the Xbox360 atm, unless you are really into HD movies. if you want HD movies, I'd definitely go for the PS3, cause $300 for a blu-ray player is cheap as hell.
 
If it were two months ago, I would recommend XBOX360. As of lately, I would recommend the PS3. Why ? Two months ago, my PS3 was collecting dust. In the past 2 weeks, my XBOX360 was collecting dust. The reason is because of the games (VF5, Motorstorm, Tekken 5, God of War 2). Based on the upcoming titles for both console, I can see my XBOX360 collecting dust for a while.
As for your case, $300 for PS3, that's a no brainer. Get the PS3 of course. If you don't like it, you can alway sell it and get an XBOX360 and make some profit. LOL.
 
PS3. Even if you want to get a 360, you're better off getting the PS3 and selling it. Besides, if you use the $300 to get a 360, you'd only get a core, as others have stated. And core = suck.

I myself would go for a PS3 over a 360, but I would use it for Blu-Ray and to play video games. Games for PS3 are starting to crop up, but if you wanted to just use the console for games, a 360 would probably be a better choice. Note that ATOT is HEAVILY biased against Sony.

Anyway, here's how it breaks down:

Buy PS3 for $300 and you can get a PS3, or a PREMIUM 360.
Buy 360 for $300 and you get a core 360.

I have 360, and it's amazing, great games, and Xbox Live Gold is spectacular

Plus, it has rumble 🙂
 
For that price it's certainly a no-brainer. That's the lowest you're going to see a PS3 for a very long time (possibly years unless there's a special sale/promotion) whereas 360 price-cuts are supposed to be on the horizon.

rumble is apparently coming back...says the god of war 3 people. and sony/immersion have made up and are developing "future" products.

but yes, 360 has good games and xbox live is just amazing...
 
No brainer. Get the PS3. At worst it'll be a blu-ray player, which is worth it alone.
